Probably has to do with the fact that IL-2 is not much of a MMOG, I'm not into boxed offline stuff anymore.

But it still wouldn't play....no picture. no sound.

It loaded Win. Media Player by default. But I got no codec warnings so asumed I had the right ones.  :)

Mindless furballs are fun mrsid, not arguing.  But dead nuts on WWII aircraft graphics coupled with a decent FM are still viable, even at the 32 player limit. Multiplayer takes a few more clicks of the mouse, but Im savy enough to navigate the 15 seconds of hooking up.

Course you could note a warp happy arena at 300+ players in a MMOG with degraded graphics is "better", I think it's just a matter of simple trade-offs and preferance.

Still, to call IL-2 a "Box Sim" is misleading. And you may be missing out. Or not. I don't care.

IL2 kicks butt!  immersive as hell.

true,  not the mega-multi player option but who cares.  It's a different beast and well worth the time to get good at.

I still dig AH but IL2 is one squeakin' sim

Can't say much since I've only played the demo.

Ive heard from my friends that the FM didn't improve over the demo though.

I'd like to see IL-2 online but unfortunately I don't know anyone who owns one, nor will I pay the price just to try it.

It looks very cool even offline though. The ground terrain is the first one where I felt like falling when spiraling down :)

Il2 is awesome. It is by far the greatest prop sim to date Imo, however its not a massive online game like Aces High.

Even without having 400+ people playing at mulitple parts of a map at the same time, the 32 max ive seen is SURELY Plenty when online games are hosted at hyperlobby.

No worries about 1200K yard single ping deaths either. If anything the gunnery seems to be much more imo,... (realistic).

Is it me, or does FA3 seem to be looking at Il2 as a point of reference?

:p

I’ll tell you what. Buy the game, patch it, and then crack it. Spend time sorting out the views, (hint: A saitek gives you mouse control and sweet view options, rivaling AH even with the Il-2 limiting ultra realistic approach to that particular game play feature)  Give it to all your friends, play COOP missions. If they dig it, make em buy it. I crack everything I buy, or take in trade, and if it’s good, buy it anyway. I support the developers. At least it dispels bad PR from demo’s as you make so painfully clear.

Listen, when IL-2 introduces the Western front maps and planesets, it will crush all flight sims of the WWII era.

Why? Because on a GF3, it is like a fluid real-time museum of WWII fighters. Granted, it has flaws. Namely, flaps are used as air anchors, planes take off like dragsters, even though ground-handling models seem dead on, and various planes have suspect performance. Improvements will happen, none, which right now are showstoppers.

In future patches, I see those flaws becoming more extinct, as the user base and the makers of IL-2 are very well in tune with each other. “Secrecy” seems a bad word there, a refreshing developer attitude indeed.

Now whether 32 players at once is enough for you, I dunno. Still, COOP mode makes for endless scenarios, without CT setup problems, sign up headaches, user time attendance issues, etc…

If you got the people to play (squad night) it is just fantastic. And going to get better which is the real kicker.

AH is the toejam, and a lot of fun, just don’t discount other means of WWII flightsim fun out of loyalty. HTC knows their nitch, so should it’s players.

And it certainly gives a benchmark for HTC to bridge the gap, see?

if Il2 would set up a MMOG server and charged $10 a month...it would kill ALL flight sims out. except maybe the hardcore fans of certain companies. i garentee if il2 had a MMOG server i would subscribe. still have my AH account tho. AH is my first online sim. kinda got a little sentimental value to me. i'll be here till the day it dies. but i would also be playing Il2 just as much. i personally dont have the game as of now. but from everything i've heard there isnt a sim that can touch it.

Kinda what I’m getting at Pimp, is players like you can still find great fun in AH, but will find fun and a necessary distraction in Il-2 given it a chance. Imagine immanent AH update time seem like a welcome surprise, not a priority to your game play geek wants!

Initially I just Wow’d at the IL-2 graphics, and scoffed at the interface as I was used to what’s in AH . Then out of update boredom, I dove into it much like I had too in AH to set it up and see what it was all about. I suppose many new players to AH feel exactly the same way, whether it is learning curve or their just used to another sim.

It’s 2 different approaches to WWII aircraft combat, each is cool, has good points, some glaring flaws. We can’t meld Combat Mission, F4, AH, IL-2, and Operation Flashpoint into one super sim. Yet….

However, discussing it might fall into the eyes of developers, which info and feedback from players ain’t all bad. Plus, peoples might just give it a try, buy it, and give resourses to the game makers to update the cool stuff more and more.

Or I could tell you about my Pontiac. Up to you.

X45. Enable the mouse function on the throttle.

The increment mouse view is the toejam.
