how is this possible? if anything IMO it should be either a succesfull landing...or at least a ditch. how far away from an ememy field do you have to be before it becomes a ditch?

You have to be closer to a friendly field than enemy.

I too ditched at my city the other night and was captured.

Seems goofy but the moral of the story is this: If there is an nmy field closer to your city than the next friendly field, dont ditch at your city. Get as close to your own field as possible before the ditch.
