Post a little something about Monitor spec's, what they mean and what would be most desireable?  Pleez?  I'm thinking hard about getting a Samsung 955DF ($196), mostly because I need another monitor anyway as my current 19" is old and cheap.

There's not really a lot to go by there.  That maximum resolution doesn't really help much without refresh rate information.  A lot of the time the refresh rate is down to only 60 - 66 Hz at the "maximum supported resolution."  Look for a minimum refresh rate of 75 - 85 Hz at the resolution you want to be running at.

One other thing to mention that may matter to you relates to the two types of CRT monitor that are available.  (Aperature Grill and Shadow Mask.)  Both work perfectly well and have some advantages, but it's worth mentioning that the aperature grill based monitors have two little wires visible that may or may not annoy you.

If you can, try to see one in person.

bloom25,  it is an Invar Shadow Mask....put on your glasses .

I can tell this monitor has a limited power supply and some cheap electronics.  1600x1200 is pretty low for a 19" monitor with .20mm dot pitch.

They probably scrimped on the power supply as to drive a CRT to higher resolutions puts higher demands on the power supply and driver electronics.

It may never be a problem, but I am more picky about monitors than most, so weigh that in.

  I've seen one.  My parents got one for the system I put together for them awhile back.  It looks really good.  I doubt I'll be trying to run anything higher than 1600x1200 for a long long time (getting a GeForce4 Ti4600 soon though lol....may experiment).  If I understand things correctly, it's max is 1600x1200 at 65hz.  1280x1024 (which I'm very happy running AH at) up to 80hz.    Anyway, if ya'll don't think there's any "problems" to worry about...I'll probably grab one.  Being very monitor stupid I thought I'd ask you guyz opinion first.
