SKUZZY !!! pls read
« on: May 26, 2000, 08:29:00 AM »
hey skuzzy,

Ex and I are having probs with some email we think. Our ladder script sends out confirmation emails to both parties that are involved in a dual. However, he and i did not recieve an email. While it seems that everyone else has recieved one, it leads us to believe that there may be a problem with the "aceshighcs.com" email address??

Is there anyway you can look into the functions or check the email to see if it is working properly?

would appreciate your help!

Not sure I understand what you are saying.

Can you send me an email (skuzzy@aceshighcs.com)?

Note: if you send an email to a an address, which has a list of addresses in it, then you, the sender, will not get an email back, even if you are in the list.

The domain is not a problem, as there are many who use it and are getting thier email just fine.  It might be something else, such as a server being blocked by our systems if it is an open-relay email server.

I can only speculate without some more information.

Hiya Skuzzy,

I might be able to give ya a little more detail.

This is all in regards to The Ladder and email notifications being sent by the script. Here's what the script does in this case. A person issues a challenge to another person and the script sends an email notification to both pilots. I've set the "from" field to the other pilot's address so they can easily communicate with each other by simply replying to the message.

OK ... everyone else received the initial notification except mason22 and myself. Currently we are the only ones using the "aceshighcs" email addresses. The wierd thing is that both of the other pilot's replied to the message they received and the reply made it through to both mason22 and I.

Does this clear things up a bit? Let me know if you need any other details.

Ex ...................

Let me try this one out on you.

If the To: address or Cc: or Bcc: address contains the address of the From: address, then the address in the From: line is dropped from the To:, Cc:, Bcc: lines.

For instance, if assume the following:

From: exile@aceshighcs.com
To: mason22@aceshighcs.com, exile@aceshighcs.com

In ths above instance, "exile" will not get a copy of the message, as it is assumed the sender of the email already has a copy of it.

I am not sure if this helps as I still am trying to get a handle on who is sending what and how it is being sent.

I have noticed quite a bit of email going to "exile" in the logs, so I know the address is working just fine.

Here's an example using Kieren and mason22:

Kieren challenges mason22. The script sends 2 emails. The first one uses "To: kieren@hpcisp.com" and "From: mason22@aceshighcs.com". The second one uses "To: mason22@aceshighcs.com" and "From:kieren@hpcisp.com". This looks like it should work to me.

The first email goes throgh fine. The second one does not go through. Kieren is able to reply to the first email and the reply goes through to mason22.

Exile, can you send an email directly to mason22@aceshighcs.com?

And mason22, can you send an email directly to exile@aceshighcs.com?

Just send a test message.  This way I can review the logs.

hey skuzzy,

we're still having a problem with mason22@aceshighcs.com (or any ###@aceshighcs.com)

I can recieve emails from people who reply to mason22@aceshighcs.com, and people can send me directly to mason22@aceshighcs.com. What Exile and i think the problem is must have to do with the mail being sent from the script. Do you think it would be a problem with the smtp server that the script is using or a problem else where? The smtp server should be the Roadrunner server for austin texas. Any ideas? If you would rather call us, email me and i'll send you our 800 number.thanks for helping skuzzy!

Danis, please post the email header in the Internet forum.

Our incoming mail server is very tight about addresses and has a high degree of SPAM controls in place.
I can tell you exactly what the problem is, if you, or anyone else getting email bounced back, if you post the email error and complete header from the messages.
I do not need the message body, just the header.

Hmmm, I can only guess at this point.  Sounds like something either interacting with the script (i.e. the sending server) or some other odd interaction.
I have checked the logs, and there have been no bounces from the RR mail servers, which only indicates the sending server did not connect to our incoming email server.

Heya Skuzzy,

Here's the header from a test message I sent myself using a script on my site. I tried sending one to exile@aceshighcs.com, but nothing came through. I then used exile@austin.rr.com and a few others. All others came through. I hope this helps.
