It can take a face full of .50 cal, and keep on going.  Works well on all GV's except the Ostie.

You guys are all wrong! I use the IL-2 as a fighter, it's a GREAT fighter when the FH's are down. I killed 3 nikis in it and came back to land 5 times. I have 5 kills in it and 0 deaths! The 23mm guns are great to blow up the pilot, just like I did on the niki's. It's climb is actually pretty good for being a "bomber!" It good dive speed, which means you need altitude!

No mandoble, I was in M-16 and he came to the edge of my range (actually I pinged him quite a lot as he flew low and level)

Next to my surprise I was sent to tower (never saw rockets or smoke trails) and he said he shot me using his custom built rocket sight from D1.2..

Edit: looks like he maybe at 1.0 when launching..

Hit dead center, none missed AFAIK.

Yep, after reading how hard Il-2 was to shoot down the glass-tail in AH doesn't seem to be right. AFAIR pilots usually tried to shoot the oil-cooler or straight to the cockpit from sides.

It was known that IL-2 had only 1x1 meter vulnerable spot at the wing root + cockpit that could be shot with .50 in order to disable the plane. Very few finnish fighters had cannons though and I haven't seen 109 vs il-2 reports that would give light to the durability against cannons.

Probably they aimed for the vulnerable parts in any case.

Mandoble, the Russian rockets were famous to be effective from very long distances. I have used the IL-2 twice and I destroyed gv's with the rockets, but it was me impossible to explode a tank with the canyons. The biggest problem in the IL-2 of AH it is that very fragile, comparative with the reality.

usually when i use sturmovik its to take revenge on GVs. And it always works:D . As for the fighter part, it could dog fight with very old 109s. But that never went well.:(  But it is a really good deflacker.:D

In RL the Soviet rockets were originally designed for air-to-air use, but turned out to be too inaccurate so were relegated to ground attack.  They weren't accurate enough to hit a tank with any reliability, either, so they generally used them for attacking area targets.

It works a treat for building up those bomber perks. Knocked out two Ostwinds with rockets, and a panzer with guns last night; total of about 8.4 points for a 10 minute sortie. Some practice and persistence with those rockets pays off.

Also had a MC205 try to HO me.

All it needs is the 2 x 37mm cannon option.

Salem
