Alright, I give in, let's turn AH into online SWOTL
« on: May 26, 2000, 08:51:00 AM »
Well, seeing as how my pleas for early war planes has been going on deaf ears, I give up. Let's take the plunge and make AH something really, really new by turning it into an online SWOTL. For those of you born after 1991, that stands for "Secret Weapons on the Luftwaffe", a flight sim by Lucasarts way back in the stone age of flight sims.

HTC, let's start loading up on the "what-if" planes, and then maybe we can start heading backwards into time and crank out the stuff that actually saw combat.

In case you're wondering, this is not a troll, I'm being totally serious. With the advent of WW2OL looming on the horizon, and with Warbirds stagnating in WW2 era craft, cranking out the "what if" planes of late WW2 will definately set AH apart from the rest of the crowd.

Even this early war dweeb(tm) would have a ball flying a DO-335 or F8f.

SWOTL, IMO, still  the best flight sim ever produced for the  simple  fact that it had  good strat within  the game, was a game within a game.

Gimme the Do335 or the HE229!!!

Can we fo what SWOTL didn't and have some British planes? I'd like a Meteor, Vampire and Spit 22 with Griffon 85 please.

As much as I would love to have an environment where the P-40B would be competitive, as banana suggests the SWOTL planeset might be the best way for HTC to go from a business point of view.  There certainly was a late war (cough) preference by many players in WB.

I think the community is WAY more important to having fun than the particular planeset.  So far, the AH community has been great in that respect.  In this environment, I'm sure I'd find a way to enjoy an F8F.

Being fairly new at all this, is there an actual requirement that the plane flew and fought during WW2?

For a HA I could see the fuss, but for the MA open the gates.

I think the rules for SWOTL were that a prototype had to have flown before the end of the war.
