What's a HO?
« on: March 10, 2002, 10:27:05 PM »
I was a little perturbed the other day when I was verbally assaulted and called a HO dweeb for getting a kill.  I didn't think it was a HO, and was wondering if perhaps Lag played a part.

Pony Hi, Me Tempest lower.  Pony avoides the HO (as I did), he pulled up and did a good job of retaining E.  I pushed low and also retained plenty of E.  I however turned the corner quicker, actually I think the P51 wasn't going to fool with me, but I pursued.  On approach to the P51's 6, he began a hard left turn, I adjusted left and this is what I saw.  HIS wings were perpendicular to the ground, mine were level and I racked his plane.  Saw one hit on the nose, one around the canopy and perhaps one hit on the Tail.  Correct me if I'm wrong, but I didn't really think that counted as a HO lol.  Could lag have been a player?  COULD lag be so bad that he saw an actual HO merge while I was seeing the entire top of his aircraft?  Just wondering because I was on the other side of the coin once.  I turned and saw a straight on HO and the other guy referred to it as a "frontal deflection shot" whatever the hell that is.

"What's a HO"

Hmm......I thnk this is the wrong forum to be asking that.

Oh wait,  you mean the OTHER kind of HO.

A HO is a Head On; namely when two planes fly towards each other shooting each other.  There's roughly a 40% chance that whoever loses in such a pass will start to whine and complain.  Treat such complaints dierected at yourself as proof of a job well done.

Take any shot you feel comfortable taking, and don't take any toejam from the crybabies.  Just carry a big box of tissue for 'em.

An avoided HO is a 50% con on my six.

So take a FW190 and hope you are the lucky one :D

If done right, any HO I avoid where the other guy shoots is a big advantage for me... not him.  Set it up right and you get a nice angles and energy advantage.  Merge slightly below his nose and lead turn him in the vertical... if he's shooting he'll overshoot below you (giving you an E advantage) and you will start turning earlier (angles advantage).  Please... HO my Jug any time ya want. :)

Ive always said, dont point yer guns at my face and i wont
point mine at yours.  Simply put, If 2 planes are flying
nose to nose, one of em deserves to be shot.  If 2 palnes arent
flying nose to nose then it aint a HO , is it?

hmm i distinctly remember robert s. johnson's description of several head approaches on with real live german opponents. He toasted them. In real life them thar head on bullets really hurt, so why any different in a sim? Having come from aw where the ho didn't really exist, I learned REAL quick that ho is there in ah, and find it funny how many people will line up on you for a firing run and whine when u actually getem. if someone wants to fly straight into 4 cannons then I for one will share my rounds with them. Just like them guys did in WW2.

Well guyz lol, I know what a HO is, and they aint cheap.  As for the other kind, ya'll sorta missed to point I guess.  He wasn't fireing, let alone flying at me.  Had he been pulling the trigger..I'd have seen his shots flying at a 90 degree angle (left) from where I was.  ....ahh never mind, he blow'd up and I din't, good enough for me.

id say the only true 'HO' is when both of you take the frontal shot.

if the other guy is avoiding the full frontal and you hit him its not a HO, its a decent deflection shot at high closing speeds.

The only time i find the HO dweeby is when its the only shot you take over and over with no attempt to trick or outfly your opponent.(lots of spit/nik flyers fly this way) or if you attack from 2k or more above but just dive straight in when you could easily drop in from above onto their 6.

Ho's on the other hand, best try amsterdam nightclubs! :D

Rules of Engagement.

1. Take any shot you can get that you survive and your Foe does not.

2. When ever possible gangbang. Why? Because the second the numbers change you will be gangbanged. Better to be the banger than the bangy.

3. Vulch whenever possible. Anybody trying repeatedly to take off from a CAP field needs to be vulched. It is as natural as Darwin's law.

4.  Always fly the A/C that suits you or your needs. If someone fly's a C202 they are perk hunting, If someone fly's a ME262 they are flaunting their perks. Fly what you want when you want. 75% of the A/C up in the MA are Spits anyway so anyone calling you a dweeb must in fact be a dweeb themselves.

5. We are all sitting in front of computer screens in our homes around the world playing with our joysticks pretending to be a fighter pilots in a war that ended 50 years ago. Surely we are all dweebs.
