Track IR - free mouselook!!
« on: March 16, 2002, 10:19:14 AM »
Aces,

being hooked up by IL2 recently, reading all those praising posts by Track IR owners and seing it in action on all those trk files I got so hot on that thing that I ordered it from a local reseller.

Now that 1.09 is out (THX for the 110 and the Emil!!!) AH got my attention back...  my only concern is that I still didn't figure out how to get "free mouselook" in AH. Sure, there is a free panning mode but can it be controlled via mouse (which means via the Track IR device)?

Are there any Track IR users out there who got it working with AH? Sure, icons reduce immersion but head tracking is one step further to the real thing!! AH is till my No.1 ONLINE sim and I wanna use all those hi-tech gimmicks to get the most out of it!!!

Bring Track IR support to AH!!!

... thank you for your attention - Kirin out

Ive seen the thing your talking about (if you mean the one you put a dot on yer head.  But Im a little sceptical about its ease of use...I mean, your not actually looking around, cause your monitor isnt there (I WANT VR GLASSES THAT WORK DANG IT....there I feel better).

Just what are you doing to control it...looking a little to the corners of the monitor?

Well, the device is quite simple actually:

InfraRed sender/receiver somewhere in front of you (on top of monitor) - IR reflector/active source on your forehead, glasses, microphone.

I haven't got it yet but this is what I read about it:

You can set sensitivity that way so you only need small head rotation to make the mouse move around. The best way to control lateral movement though is to move your head sideways. From what I heard it's quite some work to get used to it - but once you got it in your blood it feels totally natural. It works great with sims that support free mouslook (like Falcon, EAW, IL2) but best with "Fly!" because that one handles the viewing different. (like in strategey games --> when your cursor reaches an edge the screen starts to scroll).

---

Anyway still didnt figure out how to set mouselook in AH. Tried to map mouse to the HAT control - only get small uncontrollable movements (no surprise though because I have to chose ONE mouse axis for the HAT function) - Skurj, can you tell me how to properly map it please? Searched the forum on this subject - only found 1 very disappointing answer by Pyro who said that panning with mouse isnt possible... :(

In select Joystick screen

Select mouse and set it to View Yaw (Mouse X) and View Pitch(Mouse Y)

Alright - figured out how to do it - but holding the right mouse button remains a problem... not sure if you can map a mouse button... :(

Can't we get just a mapable "switch" to toggle mouslook/mousecontrol?
