What's the best video resolution that AH can be run in? Is it limited to the three choices allowed in Video setup, or can I edit the video.cfg for a higher res?

Yes,

you can edit the file (with wordpad) and choose the res you want, from 640x480 to 1600x1200, if your card/video allow you.

I run AH at 1600x1200 on my PIII-500 with 19" monitor and it rocks, really. You cant imagine how good are cockpits in the so called "ultra-high-mega-res" ...  .

Well the reason I ask is that I tried it before asking (from 1024x768 to 1280x1024) and saw no frame rate hit. I naturally assumed that it had not worked, although I did see the monitor switch. Is there any way to verify that I'm in a particular res?

i took no hit also (it even seems like it might be better for fps if that is possible mine went up!!)

if video config is changed and it runs you are in the res showin in video.cfg.

i could see a instant diff

Atleast my monitor shows the resolution and refresh rate in the on-screen menu, when I press the button on my monitor.  I guess all modern monitors have such a feature, or atleast an lcd-display.

If your monitor doesn't have this, you can always count the pixels
