I looked up info on Spit14. looked just like those pics. my 110 named peppy is very sad now.

Methinks a lot of folks are going to be supprised at how 'un-Spit-like' the XIV will most probably be.
Massive torque and a viscous stall will be a somewhat new experience for most Spit drivers wouldnt you say?
The opposite direction of prop rotation than the earlier Spits , combined with the abovementioned huge torque will no doubt make it a bit of a handfull to fly.
I'm not sayin' it wont be any good, just dont expect it to handle as sweetly as the earlier models, this Spit should be an entirely differant beast alltogether, undoubtably lethal in the right hands, but a far cry from a 'newbie ride'.
I'm betting the whines about it will be plenty.

None of the many books I have on the spit support your contention. They say it handles like a Spit IX.
If they are correct then we have a plane that handles and packs the guns of a spit ix. But has the high alt level speed of a pony and the climb of a 109g10..
It will roll better then our spit IX though cause they all had clipped wings I think.
Interesting to see what it flies like. Probably a 100 point perk if Im correct. more like a 60-70 point perk if you are.

It will roll the same as our Mk IX.

It does not have clipped wings, as many Mk XIVs did not.

You're thinking of the bubble canopy Mk XIVs, of which most, or all, had clipped wings. This is a razorback Mk XIV, the 1944 version.

I'm glad my Sig line is remembered with such warmth. I was sitting watching the movie "Cabin Boy" and drinking some beer, when they used a line that went "Real Men.... Nancy Boys... " and I thought it would be perfect for AH/WBs (I flew both at the time).

As far as I remember, HiTech had SpitXIV already modeled in WB. And its handling characteristics were very very different than SpitIX. I expect similar differences in the AH version.

Pretty much what I based my statement on, with vague memories of reading in various places how one Spit pilot or another commented that they were an entirely differant beast.
Plus, higher weight, differant CoG, right hand spinning prop ( from pilots point of view), Griffon engined Spit's characteristic long nose etc.
I may be wrong of course, it's not unheard of, but I would be VERY suprised to find that the XIV handled as nicely as an IX.

What I REALLY want is a MkVIII, yes thats right, an 8, and no, it is not an earlier model than the IX.
In Aussie colours with the lettering CC R would be splendid

well it's nice to see this plane, it better be perked from the get-go. Knowing the main arenas fetish with the old scheissfeur this will kill the greatest online sim ever if it comes unperked.

A nice 20 perk price tag should set it well.

Define: "faster".

At typical AH combat altitudes the Tempest is 25mph faster and climbs as well. Only once you get over 20,000ft does the Spit 14 become faster than the Tempest.

The Yak-9U is faster than the Spit 14 at typical AH combat altitudes.

Of course, if it has the 150 octane, 25lbs boost of a Doodlebug chaser all bets are off. I was descibing the standard 100 octane, 18lbs boost version.
