Anyone care to learn me about LCD monitor's, or point me to a good website about them that has spec's explanations, pro's/con's and recommendations?

I'd appreciate the help. I'm building a system for a guy who's dead set on an LCD monitor, problem is I don't know a thing about them and I don't want to steer this guy wrong. Money is not much of an issue, this dude if freekin LOADED. He's already looking at spending about $1200 on his monitor. I'd really appreciate any pointers ya'll have.

the only spec i know of that is different from a regular monitor is the contrast ratio (darkest to lightest viewable color) the best i found is 1:400 IMO the ones less than 1:200 didn't look as sharp.

also he should get a service contract on it with a replacement policy to 1 pixel. indevidual pixels can blowout fairly easy(you get a permanent shiny spot on the screen) some service contracts require a minimum amount b4 they will replace the monitor, so you have to live with a couple until enough go to replace it.

also if you're doing alot of documents, many lcds come with a rotation feature that lets you turn the screen 90 deg. so you can see the full document on screen in the same layout you'll be printing in

I've also heard of 'ghosting' with LCD's I think this might resemble a tail on your mouse pointer when moving if you had the feature enabled on your mouse pointer.

I really no next to nothing about these things and would also like to know more.

I use them at school, 15" Dell's and I don't find the image quality very good, and the brightness/contrast adjustments on these particular models SUCK

I'll mention it to him sprint..thanks. No joke...the guy said he'd let me take his LAMBROGHINI for a spin for doing this work for him (along with my cut-rate charges lol...good god).

Tumor I hope you get your ride. Their is an article in this month's MaxiumPC, on page 53, titled "What's the Matter with My Monitor". Its about some one who switched over to a flat panel monitor that had a "native mode" of 1280x1024 and didn't have enough graphic horsepower to get decent frame rates. The answer is to make sure you have enough graphic power for the monitor's native mode resolution, otherwise you won't get your ride. The GeForce4 Ti4600 should work well with this monitor. Kick Ass.

LCD technology has come a long way from the early days, but so has vacuum tube CRT's.

I would not consider a LCD display today with the incredible clarity, sharpness, contrast and speed of CRT technology available. LCD's still do not measure up to a high quality CRT monitor.

TFT or plasma monitors are probably the best compromise between the two technologies.

Still,..it is a pesonal preference.

Have you looked into LDP projectors? This is the greatest since sliced bread:)

they have one of those projctors at work, not sure how the performance is but projecting onto a whole wall is apealling
