I saw in another thread about Early War that DNIL offered to run a historical matchup night.
That is a much better idea. One thing I like about AH is the late war planes, and that there seems to be a effort to make all the planes competitive in the MA. And it ain't like there is a shortage of planes coming up, either. My guess is that we could add the Dora and the Tempest and still have balance. The Spit XIV may be too much tilt, but I bet a Hellcat would be more competive than people think.
Anyhow, I think DNIL should run that and here is my suggestions for historical matchups:
1. The P-51D versus the 109G10. Speed on speed.
2. The Spit9 versus the FW190A5. Would the FW190 clean house? I think the Spit drivers would quickly learn to climb high and fight together.
3. The F4U-1C versus the N1K1. Say what you will, but a good group of Japanese pilots would rock them.
4. The P-38L versus the FW190A8.
5. The Macchi 202/205 versus the Spit V.
6. The Yak-9D versus all the 109s except the 109G10.
7. The A6M5 versus the La-5.
8. The P-47D versus the Typhoon just to get all the Brits some satisfaction killing Americans in "Aces Low".
Comments on the matchups?
All but #8 are somewhat historical, and most importantly they are FAIR matchups. Instead of early planes, let's do matchups like these. I dunno about you, but esp. with the AH engine, puttering along in a Hurricane I would be a damn drag.
