E-D Glasses in AH / thumbs up or down?
« on: March 13, 2002, 04:21:01 PM »
Is anyone using E-D Glasses in AH?
And would you recommend them?
If so why?
If not why?
Since I'm not building a pit I thought this could help pacify my immersion craving.

E-D Glasses in AH / thumbs up or down?

I tried a pair over the weekend with a Geforce 4 ti 4400 card.

They are kinda picky and after messing with them for about 6 hrs, I took them out. You have to kinda set a focus point for the effect to reference from. But I couldn't get everything to focus in. ie if the gunsight was in 3D, the instruments would be ghosting badly and when the instruments were good and sharp, the gunsight was out of focus to the point my aim was off. For just flying around and lookin - it was really neat. In the 110 the back view felt like you were looking down a long hall. You got the feeling of 3D - alot.
The refresh rate has to be over 100hz which limits some monitors resolution settings. Even at 120hz running 1024x768 I had an annoying flashing about every 20 to 30 seconds.

neat experience, but created more trouble thanthey were worth for me

think they are only $30 now, so give it a go. Your experience may differ

Problem is that the mouse pointer tends to get disabled. The nVidia 3D Stereo drivers have a 3D game rating and tweek section that should help you out in finding gmes that will have acceptable results. I loaded up Black & White for my neice a few weeks ago and was amazed at the 3D look.

Thanks for the reply Eagler. You confirmed my suspicions "Cool little do-dad but not really functional" under our circumstances.

"don't count the glasses out. After trying them again at 1280 x 1024 x 32 and messing with the settings so that the interior is 2d while outside is 3d, it's pretty cool. Gunsight works, zoom is great. Slight flickering as the monitor goes down to 70 hz when I ctrl T the effect on. Need to ctrl G to bright it up a tad but a neat change. Heard Operation Flashpoint is very neat with them.
Sox, what driver you using? THe one that came in the box, what rev is yours? My Pny CD driver is 4.13.01.2742.

My game cfg for the stereo glasses read as:

AppRealName=aceshigh (SW TnL)
StereoConvergenceMultiplier=-5.91004515
StereoSeparation=0.01860369
StereoGamma=1.20000005
StereoConvergence=-0.01692036
MinRHW=-0.79869032 (farthest)
MaxRHW=10.00000000 (closest)
Suggested StereoConvergenceMultiplier=-5.91004515
Suggested Infinity RHW=0.20577219
Warning!!! 0.09301707 of Z range is at infinity and beyond!!!
Farthest object with equal RHW is at 10.00000000
RHWGreaterAtScreen=0.44477019
DX version=700

have been going back and forth trying to decide btw an ATI 8500 128MB 275mhz radeon or this ti 4400 or my old geforce 2 ultra. Both the ATI and TI4400 are $299 from Circuit City. Again the geforce4 is faster while the ati has better image in and out of game ... now that the glasses are working somewhat, probably go with ti4400."
=============================================

They are pretty neat in this mode. More for fun than kills.
Neat/fun change
