my mic still sounds soft
« on: March 27, 2002, 10:04:14 AM »
my squad mates tell me my mic still sounds soft even after the patch yesterday.
Mymic slider is all the way up and the mic boost is selected. sb live platinum card.
One thing my squad has been talking about is dx 8.0 vz dx8.1.
i have xp running and whatever shipped with xp. Do i need 8.1 for this or 8.0. I dont know which version of direct x xp shipped with but i thought is was dx8.1.
Anyway the latest patch did not help my mic softness problem.

By defalut xp comes with 8.1
You can check by clicking on start and run, type dxdiag. There it will tell you what version of direct x you are running.
Have you checked the volume setting in xp? Double click on the sound icon in your system tray at the bottom right hand corner of your screen. Then click options and properties. Put the dot in recording. Click ok. Turn the volume for the mic up.

well i copied this from the ms dx site, which answers one part of where the prolme is not!

Note: The Windows XP operating system includes DirectX 8.1. If you use Windows XP, you do not need to install DirectX 8.1.

when is the next patch due out?

Have you tried another mic to make sure that there is nothing wrong with the one you are currently using?

I am running XP also and have not experienced this problem.

Do you have "Wave In" checked on in the AH - Setup - Voice ?

Check that first ... then ....

It sounds like you haven't gone to the XP "Windows Update" site since you got your machine. You might want to do that and apply all necessary fixes/updates to XP. There have been quite a few since XP came out.

The "Update" site will also let you know if your version of DirectX can/needs to be updated.

For some reason, Micboost likes to turn itself off, to fix the volume, turn micboost off, and then turn it back on.
