Roger Wilco + AH = Blue Screen of Death
« on: March 30, 2002, 10:53:20 AM »
Since the 109 upgrade, using Roger Wilco in Aces High causes my computer to hang up when I go to shut down for the night.

Game play is fine, although I had to uninstall-reinstall RW to be heard using AHvoice. I can exit both RW and AH normally, check email, whatever. But when I go to shut down the computer, I get the blue screen, and have to hit the RESET button to unhang the 'puter. It runs scandisk, restarts, then I can finally shut down normally. This happens EVERY time I use RW with AH.

Our squad prefers RW because it is MUCH clearer than AHvoice. (Not intended as a slur against AHvoice.) It would be a shame to be FORCED to give up RW, but it cannot be good for my computer to hang up EVERY time I use Roger Wilco in Aces High. My computer does NOT hang up if used outside of Aces High -- I only have the problem when BOTH are running simultaneously, and this has only occurred since 109.

Any ideas?

Smaug,

My squad mates and others have been having problems with computers binding up and getting discoed when both RW and old versions of AH Voice are running.  The system is designed to run with AH Voice integrated into the game.  I dont know what to tell you but If I were you I would delete the RW and older copies of AH Voice you have.  Try tweaking the settings for the AH Voice.  I have actually found it works the same or better than RW ever did.

Remember get rid of the RW and AH Voice older beta versions if you have them and that should fix your problem....if you want to continue to use RW (and I dont suggest that but thats just me)  Contact HTC direct via phone or email and see if they cant help.

I hope this helps.

:)

guttboy,

Are there adjustments that can be made to AHVoice, other than the volume sliders in "Setup/Voice"?

Right now, there is a significant difference in the quality of voices heard over the two systems. RW sounds as clear as if we were on the phone. AHVoice distorts voices, making us sound robotic. The distortion may be something we can get used to. We were able to use the old Air Warrior vox system just fine until we discovered RW. Maybe we're just spoiled... ;-)

Thanks for your help.

It never fails to amaze me that people say that rw is clearer than ahv.  On my computer the exact opposite is true!  RW is scratchy and not reliable.  It sounds like a bad AM radio (which I suppose you could claim is pretty realistic since the radios in WW2 fighters werent the greatest).  AHV however, is crystal clear on my system at all times, roughly equivalent to a good FM station.  I mention this to point out that just because some people have a problem, everybodies experience is different depending on their computer setup etc.  I just didnt want HTC to think that everybody thinks rw is better than ahv.  For some of us, ahv works far better than rw ever did.  I for one dont miss rw a bit, although it still works because I used it in the invasion sicily scenario last week, since we were asked not to use ahv.

Glad your system is working. Mine is not. That would be why I made the post.

I need to know how to keep my system from locking up when using RW with AH. If you can help, then please do so. Otherwise I have no use for your replies.
