Someoene stated on CNN: Israel gets $6 billion/year from US.
Egypt gets $4 billion.

nice statistic but  totaly misleading if you look at the size of the friggin country like population ?


egypt has a population of 66 million (98 census) at 4 billion works out to 60.00 a head.
isreal has a population of 6.4 million  (18 percent of that is arab) so we are talkin about the 5.2 million jews who have full rights. we spend about 1150.00 each year on every single jewish citizen.and there is alot of hiddin aid that dosent go on the books ( like us backing up their bonds )


so $60 a head for egyptions
and $1150 a head for israelis



this dosent begin to include all aid anyway.  i say again why do they get special treatment? more than 17 percent of the entire foreign-aid expenditure is on them alone so the whole world gets 37 billion and isreals cut is 6 billion

soooooo figgure there are 6 billion or so non americans on earth to get all that aid , ya with me here ? we give out 37 billion dollars total if you divide it equaly you get about 6 bucks and change. since alot of these people are in countrys who dont need or want our aid the egyption figgure dosent suprise me much
how come israelis get 1150 ? if you cant answer it fine but we seem to be funding a rouge state "just because" is getting old

Aid to Egypt started after they made peace with Israel, as a reward.

Paying off Israels enemies should really count as aid for Israel, if you're counting.

most egyptians live in poverty anyway so that 60 bucks is worth a lot. Granted the actual dollar amount that reaches the citizens is minscule.

The israelis are only our friends as long as the check dont bounce. It has always been a onesided relationship. The question is if we took 2/3s of the money going to israel and redistributed it to the palestinians what would be the result?
I mean if we were to make arafat or who who ever dependent apon us money would we get any more influence there then what we get with sharon?

My personal feelings are just cut the money off give it back to the hard working americans who earned it. There are enough charities and organizations that if folks want to help Israel let them come out of there pocket.


this government doesnt have the sac to say the hell with israel.

Do you guys really believe we can just close our eyes and let the Middle East explode? Do you not understand the effect it would have, and the inevitable world conflict that would ensue? This isn't black and white, though I wish it was.

If one accepts that view, then the lack of (or stopping of) aid to Israel should count as aid to Israeli enemies? A reward to Israel's enemies for being Israel's enemies?  ;)

I view it more like "buying off" immature, misbehaving children with presents or toys in order to get better behavior out of them.

Yeah, it works... for a while. Eventually the day of reckoning comes anyway.

And both the Araba and Israeli parties to this sitituation over there seem to misbehave as immature children do.

Personally, I've always felt that our tax money going overseas should have been examined and re-assessed along time ago. Why it hasn't been is something we all should question our congressmen and senators about...

Someone please educate me....exactly how do the US send all of those billions to Israel?  I don't think they send a cheque for $6.0 billion..do they?  Isn't this figure derived from a trade deficit on behalf of Israel?  If so, this suggests that Israel is not actually "taking" tax dollars at all...more that there is a large "accounts receivable" on the books of the US, which simply is adjusted based on trade with Israel for all goods and services traded at a national level and also for INTEREST on that deficit.  Much like the trade deficit the US has with Japan!

If this IS the case...and I cannot state for a fact that it is....then this thread is alot about nothing.

Egypt has been in the pockets of the Soviet Union for quite a while and now that their help is all gone, the USA is supposed to make up for that slack?  I don't think so.  

It probably costs more to keep Israel sovereign and alive since all neighbors are out for its extermination.  If it was only Egypt sharpening its claws, I bet our aid to Israel would be less.  But it's not just Egypt, but every single neighbor and beyond.   That does get expensive.  A strong Israel means an alive Israel.

Why don't the Palestinians blow themselves up in Jordanian shopping malls?  Because this isn't about land!

In the same way that a tax cut is a "handout", and benifits are "entitlements".

Or in the same way that America "aided" the Nazis in 1939 and 40.

I'm pretty sure the figure is lower than 6 billion, somewhere between 3 - 4 billion iirc.

The money is given partly in cash, partly in military equipment, technology transfers etc.

It is definately aid though, not like a trade deficit.

 That's a great idea :)  Only I wouldn't stop only at Isreal.  I think we should stop and re-think about who we give aid too.  Alot of the countries we give money to have state controlled media that keeps the population pissed at the ones giving them the cash.  Why should they get any money?

Hmm, I think I see a common theme here, and the problem is coming from every direction. I'm so glad that you can see the death of more Palestinians as a contribution to the solution in the region, Eagler. You obviously have a firm grasp of what is involved here, and what is necessary to "win" the day. After all, though the deaths of countless Israelis and Palestinians has, up to this point, had no beneficial effect whatsoever (and actually been detrimental), there's no reason to give up now!
