Yes, tail guns have significantly increased the 234's survivability.
At high speeds, the arado and 262 have very long turn circles, the 262 has 30mm that is only really useful at d250 or less, the arado has tail 20mm that can hit up to d600 (if you can aim it hehe).
Ive been pinged by the arado tail gun twice, making my engine smoke and losing parts of my 262 ' s wing and forcing me to break off. Neither of us died, but the arado won.
With tail guns, the arado can pull into a hard climb or dive and "walk" the 262 into its tail gun fire or simply do lazy flat sciscors at 500mph.. the 262 has to get on its 6 if it wants to get a kill (or the arado will outrun it if the 262 tries to manouver for a non-6 kill shot).
I love the tail guns, in H2H they are very fun to lug around. Heck I even saw an arado guy in the MA DEACKING a field with them. I wish I knew who that was, what balls!
