Squads in the CT
« on: April 09, 2002, 01:06:02 AM »
One thing that is a bit of a paradox in the CT is the presence of squads.  Its not too thrilling to bump into someone's squad night when there are only 4 people flying for your country and a squad of 10 on the other side of the fence.  I've seen this 3 of the last 4 times I've played in the CT.

Its not that the squad is being silly... its just that there really isn't much alternative if they wish to fly in the CT together.

I was kinda wondering if it would be a good idea to post a calendar of squad nights and times for squads flying in the CT.  Seems to be a good way for people to know when some action is going to be in the area... and a good way for squads encourage more pilots on the nights they choose to fly.

This is good idea. Let`s make CT as an arena for squad nights of squads which are based on historic basis. Are you RAF, USAF or LW squad? Are you looking for realistic/historic opponents flying  appropriate planes (not flying mixed plane set)? Lets meet one day at week in CT for historic squad night - duel of squadrons. Let`s say every Wednesday from 9 pm to 11 pm GMT (for Euro squads) or so. Let`s call it "CT Squad Nigh". Are there any squadrons interesting in it?  One day at week is not much to try something different than MA ;)

Perhaps, with help of CT team we could prepare a serie of mini-scenarios for  that CT Squad Nights. With simple rules, no registrations, limited lifes, short icons etc. Something similar like EMCs or SLs in WB.

I like seeing squads come into the CT, generaly their are enough players to apose them since side balencing is somthing most people try to do when they enter the CT.

Also the numbers are best in the CT around peek playing hours.

Set up's other than the weekly rotation we curentaly have in place are likely not to happen in the near future, it is howeaver food for thought.

VF-27 holds its squad nights in the CT every Tuesday and Thursday from 9-11 EDT.

We love to mix it up with other squads, esp. the Assassins!

DjV, the Mongrels when we get together as a squad will fly one mission together regardless of the numbers.  Then if the numbers need balancing we'll break up and fight each other.  I'm sure others due the same thing.

Anyways, our squad night in the CT is Friday night when there isn't a TOD.  However, sometimes we do it in the Main Arena.  Sometimes we get together on Saturdays (this usually isn't as many as we have on Fridays).

I've seen enough squads stay on the same time to know that just as many don't even out teams (if not more) than do.  I'm not trying to criticize that... afterall... its squad night.

It would just be nice if there was a way to help ensure there is an adequate level of competition for the squads when they show up en mass.

More than anything, the CT needs numbers.  I think that many people do not log in when the numbers are low.  Even more are likely to log in when numbers are high.  IMHO, I see no more or less imbalance in the CT when a squad is logged in.  Anouncing squad times is great, but by all means, sqauds of all sizes should be encouraged to fly in the CT anounced or not.

The Buccaneers sqaud nights are Thursdays or Saturdays, or both.  8:00 Mountain time.
* We sometimes fly in the MA when CT numbers are low.  :)
