Saitek X45: To XP or not to XP?
« on: April 11, 2002, 01:32:43 PM »
I'm going to fdisk and rebuild the OS again tonight, and was planning on just reloading Win98SE.

Is it still too early to try WinXP, especially considering that I use a Saitek X45 for AH?

Thanks for any comments.

if you use the rotors on the X45, I would stick with 98

This summer Saitek is suppose to release the programing software for XP that will allow use of the rotors.  There is a third party software that I believe will work around this.  I have not used it though, so I do not have first hand knowledge.  Saitek on their web site now host a forum.  Sim HQ,  http://www.simhq.com, has the unofficial forum.  Ron Hunts page has great info as well at http://www.saitekhelp.simhq.com.

I use an X45 stick under XP, I do not use the rotors(yet). I tried Saitek's SD02 that was just released and it hosed up all my USB devices. I had to unplug it all reboot and reinstall all my other USB devices, not to mention the BSOD, and the fact that it worked for about 2mins in game before the controls went haywire.

I currently use Dhazummers(sp) drivers and they are rock solid, just cant use the rotors yet unless you map them as an axis. I wont be going back to Win98 ever again.

Thanks for the replies, fellas. Since I use the rotors on my X45 for trim, I decided to just stick with Win98SE for now.

Saitek was suppose to release Win2000 SGE 2 Decemebers ago... I wouldn't believe anything they say until you have it downloaded and working ;)

I am sticking with Win98SE until software I want or need forces me to change. It is working so well right now, hate to fix something that isn't broke.

My Saitek X-36 USB and Voodoo 5 make sticking with 98SE a good choice as well since both have problems with 2000/XP.
