Operation Desert Fury in CT this Saturday
« on: April 10, 2002, 12:10:09 PM »
Back shortly after AH left Beta and went pay-4-play, I organized an impromptu operation in the MA called “Operation Sledgehammer.”  I announced it ahead of time, so both sides knew the when, if not the where and why.  People seemed to enjoy it, and the experience was marred only by the fact that the planes of the opposing side were not historically correct.  With the CT, we don’t have that problem.  If this is enjoyed by all, we may try to set up something like this every Saturday in the CT.  People are free to participate or not, and the arena will remain open to all during it.  The operation will last about two hours, but no one is required to participate for the whole time period.

Operation Desert Fury, Saturday 13:

We will be launching an Axis ground assault in the Tunisia theatre of operation on the above date.  Missions will be posted in the mission viewer by 2200 EST/0200 GMT, with a jump-off time approximately 2215 EST.  The points of departure and objective will remain secret until just before the jump-off time.  Please volunteer below and state your preference for either the armored spearhead or air support functions.  I will also need four volunteers for a “special assignment.”  This will be a very dangerous mission, but critical to the success of our offensive.  I will also need a volunteer to lead the Luftwaffe/Italian Air Forces into battle.  Nothing fancy; just to get people moving and provide a loose chain of command.  I will be leading the armored forces.

NOTE TO ALLIES: In the spirit of providing a cool experience for all, please resist the temptation to log in to the Axis side with the purpose of spying out the plan ahead of time.  The objective of the offensive will be indicated once the Axis forces spawn/launch, which will still provide adequate time to respond without giving either side an unbalancing advantage.  This is not a scenario, but just a means to organize a mission ahead of time.  Allies can feel free to organize a response if they wish:).

I'd love to drive a truck, but if you need a JFACC or forward air controller I'll do that too : )

Upon reading this a second time, I realize that you're recruiting JUST for the axis!!!   Who's in charge of the allied defense?

Why, YOU are, Preon1:D!  Just kidding, but you can have the job if you want it.  This is not a scenario, by any means.  Just a way to organize a little war ahead of time.  When I did this before, there was no enemy command staff.  We did it in the MA, and just the siqht of several large formations of B17s heading across the border with escorts was enough to "kick over the hornet's nest."  So, anyone one who wants to organize an Allied response is welcome.  Otherwise, we'll just let the sector counter do the job for us.
