Which soundcard has a good gameport?
« on: April 14, 2002, 08:55:10 PM »
I have a MX300 Monster Sound II at the moment, and the sound is fine. In fact i dont give a monkey's a-hole about the sound qaulity really. But the problem is that it seems the joystick port is not the 'fastest' in the world. I have used the CH diagnostic tool and it claims my port is too slow, and im thinking this may be the cause of my nose-bounce.

Ok, also, i have a brand new CH F16 Combat stick and CH pedals, so it shouldnt be a problem with those. I still get nose bounce! Turning up the dampers anymore just make the controls feel sluggish!

I have just got a USB-gameport adapter, allthough this helps the nose-bounce, i now can only use 4 buttons....

So, does anyone know of a good soundcard which has an outstanding joystick port??? Or even better, does anyone know of where to get a PCI dedicated gameport card???????

gameports... how quaint ;)

afaik, all late creative cards have good gameport.
i love the gameport on my game theater xp, because its in the external breakout box. no need to crouch under the desk to reach behind the PC.

Had a look at some Soundblasters at a local PC store.

They have some:
- standard SB Lives (2nd Hand)
- SB PCI 128 (also 2nd hand)
- SB Live 5.1
- SB Audigy Value or something like that.

Are they 128s and standard lives considered 'late', animal?

Also whats the deal with Digital Gameports - are they better than ones that dont boast it? why?

I believed they revised the gameport since the first Live! cards, and I assume its the same thing ever since. Pretty solid, not much room for improvement there.

I really recomend you get an Audigy Live!, the cheapest model, it really doesnt matter. They are all the same, except for software bundles and extra external connections in the Platinum line.

Go ahead and get the Audigy Live! Value. Audigy is the best sound card Creative is making. My experience with the Live! gameports has been positive, and ive tried a bunch of very low quality joysticks on that, they all worked properly.
