Stick Set question
« on: April 17, 2002, 10:56:13 AM »
I have a Saitek X45 system, and the SGE that comes with it allows me to use a "shift" key, which acts as a Stick Set toggle.  For example, my POV hat looks left, right, back, etc. when I use it "unshifted". However, when I press my shift key(the pinky toggle thingie on the joystick) and use the POV hat at the same time, I get the Loop Up Left, Look Up Right, Look Behind Up, etc.

Pretty neat feature, as I can get all 16 views using one 8 way POV hat and a shift key.

Lately I've been having some problems with the SGE software, so I figured I'd try to program the X45 inside of AH. Everything works great, except for the rotors...but I expected that.

Here's my question: Is there a way to create a "shift" key on my X45 that will serve as a toggle between stick set 1 and stick set 2? The only way I could figure out how to change stick sets so far was to set one button on my X45 that will switch me into stick set 2 when I'm currently in stick set 1, and then I had to program another button on the X45 to switch me back to stick set 1 when I was in stick set 2.

In other words...inside of AH, is there a way to make one button on the X45 act like a toggle, so when I press and hold that button I'm in stickset 2, and when I release that button, I'm back into stickset 1?

Thanks in advance!

banana,

Ive been using SGE for 2 years know.  My old X36 usb got 2 years of hard use.  I wore out the 10 and 2 oclock positions on hat 1, and also wasted my thumb mouse.  The most cost effective method for me was to buy a rebuilt one from saitek for 39 bucks.

The rebuilt one looks brand new and is perfect.  I reloaded the version of SGE that came with it and it is rock solid with win 98 2nd edition.  I am so spoiled with SGE that I will not upgrade to win XP until they get proven programming software.

If you want a copy of my profile I will be happy to email it to ya.

I have my veiws mapped a different way but I am able to 24 viewing positions heres how.

on hat 1 (stick) 8 level view positions. on hat (trhottle) 12 oclock is set to look up and 6 oclock is set to look down.
This should be easily mapped using AH although I have not tried it myself.

With this set up i can know control my head position up or down with the throttle.  And then move in combination with hat 1.  It works pretty good.

Thanks Pollock, but the problem I'm having right now is that the SGE commands won't load into my X45. It used to!

So until I can get that resolved, I need to program the X45 from within AH. Like I said, everything works great except for the rotors. But I really was hoping that there is a way to create a toggle for the stick sets on one button, not two.

I'm interested in hearing from Aurelius on this one. :)

Hello,
As far as programming the stick within Aces High, You will have to assign one button to one stick set and another to another stick set. I have the MS Force Feed back and this is what I have to do. About the closest thing that you can do is if you have your hat that looks around. Assign one button to look down. Now when you hold that button down and look around you will look all around down. You can do the same thing with up. Let me know if this helps at all.

banana,

I use rotar 1 as throttle and rotar 2 as RPM.  What did you want to use them for?

Hey Aurelius!

So, you're saying instead of having a "Pinkie Shift" key, I could get almost the same function by programming one of my keys to "Look Up". And then if I hold this key down and use my POV hat at the same time, I'll get all the regular views on the POV hat in the "Up" position. Right? :)

That's a pretty good alternative that I can live with. Thanks a lot!
