Problems Importing AVI Files ...
« on: April 17, 2002, 07:30:55 PM »
OK, I am able to save clips as AVI (after I change my Video to 32bit from my normal 16bit).  My problem is, when I try to import these files in Adobe Premeire 6.0, it tells me they are in an invalid or unsupported format, even though Adobe supports AVI?  ANy help would be greatly appreciated!

Windows Media player caused the same problem on my PC.

I had to fix mine by editing win.ini and system.ini when it messed up.

Go to http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/SupportUtils/ and get the  AviResetAll.zip file.

It will reset Windoze codecs for you.

Weazel, thanks for the reply :).

I D/L'd the file, actually, it changed some of my RealOne files to Windows MediaPlayer, and now I can view some I couldn't before :).  But, it didn't help with the importing of an AH Film Editor AVI file into Adobe Premeire, I still get the same error message.  I even did a clean D/L of AH, and continue to get the message.

Any other help or ideas will be GREATLY appreciated!

Have you tried saving uncompressed from the AH Film editor? It appears that you are saving with a codec that Premier doesn't support.

OK, thanks for all the help folks, I got it to work kinda .  I've been trying to save as uncompressed, but the display window never pops up that rolls through the clip so you can 'film' it.  I've tried now with with DivCodec, and about half the time the display window pops up (and the AVI file saves fine), and about half the time it doesn't.

Another question though.  I'm using Adobe Premeire 6.0, and I've created about a four minute film, with music, AH Films and text stuff.  When I have Premeire create the Film, using the default compression settings, I get a film that is almost One Gig in size ;).  I can view it fine, but can't send it anywhere :).  Any tips on compression settings, or is that just too much material?

Well, I've fiddled around with the compression, and got a film that only takes two to three minutes to D/L ;).  The Flight Footage is kinda rough and choppy, but the stills and Audio compressed just fine.  If anyone would like to review and critique my film, I'd appreciate it:

It's at the bottom of the Main Page.  I know the flight films themselves are a little lame, but I just did them yesterday after I figured out how to save the AVI files .  Well, off to grab some real footage and tinker with the Video compression ... thanks for all you help folks :).
