Wanted to pull this out of the furball in the other thread.

FWIW I don't play AH much and almost never fly in the CT. Just trying to help here, not secure some personal advantage.

Colonel Dean talks about problems with dust on the Mk. IX at Thelepte as early as 14 Feb 1943. Text gives the impression that 31st FG used a mix of V and IX at that time and that 52nd FG had similar equipment to the 31st.

funkedup, TY sir for that info, I only wish it had come to me a little earler in the week, as a token gesture(token since we have only one day left on the curent set up) I will enable the spit 9 at a couple fields. As I said earler my spitfire refrences are not what i wish they were this weakend I am going on a book buying binge:) to fill that whole in my libary:)

Read through your sources.

The USAAF Squadrons comments about the air filters on the Spit IX`s does not include a date for that.

The first mention of them actually using Spit IX`s specifically by date is 6th of May 1943. The Axis forces in N.A. surrendered on May 9th. The Campaign was from January `43.

The Poles were a special unit which was intended to provide special training to these Pilots. They got better equipment.

The first date mentioned for them having Spit IX`s is March 28th.

Second point is that there were a considerable number of Allied Spitfire Fighter Squadrons in N.A. The ones which you have listed are the exception.

If the Spit IX is included, should be perked.

I don't care if it's perked or not, I just wanted to give Brady some sources for Spit 9's flying from bases in Tunisia during the fighting there.

i read the same as buzzbait so did brady and we talked about it over ah voice

in 1 flight only 4 of ten were spit ixs it stated after "aptil 30th" and the date may 6th.

but since it wasthe last day he really didnt care nor do I. Maybe the next time this is run they will take another look at it.

limiting it too a base as far nw as possible would do more to limit it if thats the goal. either way its really no different then fighting spit 5s.

Not sure what you're getting at with the dates or the 4 of 10 thing. It's well known that 31st and 52nd FGs and the PFT used the Mk. IX in the desert. That was my point.

If you don't want to believe me, feel free. Like I said I don't fly much. No skin off my ass. Do I have to get Jerry Collinsworth on the phone to explain it to ya? Could probably arrange that BTW.
