Friday Night TOD frame 2: AARs
« on: April 19, 2002, 10:53:17 PM »
FDB and SBM tasked with keelin' P39 via a NOE run. When the time came to strike, everyone jockeyed into position to ensure Fatty was the 1st in. He died. Then we blew up the rest of the port and RTB'd to await further orders. Someone was saying something about 'last to rtb buys the beers' and since I'm such a cheap SOB I was determined it not be me. So determined in fact,  that I ended up with about 30 feet of space to slow from roughly 250 to an acceptable touchdown speed. Augered... and ended up drinkin' with Fatty afterall.

Well since my wife will need my computer all weekend to work on her papers for her masters I guess I better put up an AAR now. :)

--

Nightmares VMF-101 were tasked the destruction of A17. We launched 14 bf110-G2s loaded out with 2x500 kg bombs, 4x50 kg bombs, and DTs out of A16 and 1 bf109-G6 out of more northern base. The 110s vectored out west over the water and the looped back to the north east and then east. We had to adjust our course several times to avoid reported enemy contacts in 10,10 and then 9,11.

Basically we released our escorts 3./JG2 to sweep toward A17 and scout out the enemy positions. Meanwhile Fdutchmn, are lone fast scout in the bfg109-G6, was dispatched over to A16 to look for an enemy raid against A16 so that we could avoid it. He found it and managed to shoot down 2 enemy planes in the furball that developed there before being shot down. I think the 332nd were also in on that action.

Our 14 110s got to about 10,12,7 after avoid enemy reported positions and then dove in toward A17. We passed over enemy spitfires and mossies eggressing back from their raid on A16 on our way to A17 but were not engaged do to the fact of being higher than them and do to the fact that 3./JG2 was over also engaging them over the inlet between A16 and A17.

All 14 110s hit A17 and we took down both Bomber Hangars (2), the fighter hangar (1), multiple guns, and all the fuel at the base.  Before the allies arrived. When they allies did arrive a furball developed and in which we shot down 4 allied planes while we broke out to the north and A16. All in all we lost 10 planes to AA an allied aircraft over A17 and afterwards. I am not sure how many to each but I think we lost more to AA.

Myself, TopHat, Matelot, and Syzygy all made it back to A16. I had recieved damage to my left outboard fuel tank but since the 110s have 4 tanks and drop tanks it did not stop me from re-upping. Syzygy had also recieved damage but landed and reupped.

We vectored out west from A16 at least 1.5 sectors out over the water and then headed south. This allowed us to avoid the second allied strike on A16. TopHat discoed so we were left wtih 3 bf110-G2s to attack A17 and 2 of these were damage.

While the allies were attacking A16 and chasing some of our fighter aircraft there (cmorris) we struck and took out he VH, at least 2 guns and some of their ordinance or troops (forget which) at A17. We lost Syzygy to ack and Matelot and I were badly shot up. Matelot lost both wing tips, his aerolons, and more. I lost a MG and my righ engine took an oil hit. Both of struggled home.

Matelot struck N by NE and snuck in to A16 and landed safely again under high allied fighter cap.

I struck way out the west and then came back to A16 with about 15 minutes left in the frame with only 1 engine running.

14 = bf110-G2s launched
04 = bf110-G2s RTB first hop
02 = bf110-G2s RTB second hop
01 = bf110-G2s discoed
11 = bf110-G2s KIA

01 = bf109-G6 launced
01 = bf109-G6 KIA

4 enemy planes shot down
2 bomber hangars destroyed
1 fighter hangar destroyed
1 vehicle hangar destroyed
4+ guns destroyed
fuel destroyed
ordinance or troops damaged

2 kills = Fdutchmn
1 kill   = SMUZ
1 kill   = Syzygy
1 asst= GhstDncr

JG56 launched 6 109G10 from A13.  We were tasked with CAP of A21.  Any allied attack would come from 180 degrees to 270 degrees from 21.  So I had 2 of my squaddies (Pollock and Gorf) fly out to the west 25 miles and 2 (Sancho, AvidMC) fly out south.  The third pair (Nomde, Oblittoo) stayed over 21.  This way we might identify any attackers well before they hit 21 while still leaving 21 covered.

Pollock's group made contact with the enemy force, and vectored the rest of us in.  THe force comprised ~ 6 lancasters and ~ 8 Mustang Mk IIs.  We were forced to engage the escort fighters and a furious dogfight ensued. :)  Many P-51s were shot down, probably 6 of them fell to our guns.  At least one Lanc was destroyed.  2 of our 109s were shot down or crashed into terrain while avoiding enemy.  2 109s ditched, and 2 landed.

332nd Launched 12 AC

We were tasked with CAPing A16. I divided our flight into a group of 8 and a group of 4. The South group was lead by swagger and I lead the north group. Our group spotted some dots NW, but they turned out to be friendlies. We turned back for 16 where Swagger was still patrolling. Near 16 we spotted a very large formation of dots low and just south of 16. It turned out to be a large group of Spits and Mossies on a NOE raid to 16! We caught them just after they made their first pass.

All I can say is we took out as many as we could. They quickly took out all the ack at 16 and pounded many hangers to rubble.  :D I was impressed on their fast, accurate, and deadly strike.

332nd Mongrels claim at least 8 AC destroyed and several damaged.
We lost about as many according to preliminary reports.

Several pilots survived the attack and later engaged some hi P-51's escorting some Lancaster's.

Due to some communication problems, Shills didn't get orders until the last minute. Shillelagh upped 5 lancs, but I'm not sure if any of our guys had ever flown one before lol. We lost one to the hill at the end of the runway (DOH!) but took four out to level some fields. We hooked up with the Nighthawks on the way to the mainland, but got seperated, as we turned south to aviod port ack. Worked out for the best as we were supposed to hit the field first anyhow. We dropped some hangars and gun emplacements. Got ready to make a second pass, but the Nighthawks had finished it off. We flew on too another field and dropped on it. Lost a plane to a wing rip (hey now, what do we know about bombers lol) Other three planes landed. -04- reported actually seeing the enemy, but I don't know if I believe him .  We had a lot of fun though, and we did a lot better than I expected :) Nighthawks for buffing with us, and to the 13th and 512th for providing Escort. Oh, and an extra to Toad for babysitting our formation after we got seperated.

Well, I got rather cut off from my squad, so this is just a personal AAR, not a squad one.

Took off from A15, my squad was to rendevous with the Nightmares, but me and Drunky never made it.  We were supposed to scout out ahead, but I spotted two low dots and went down to investigate.  Drunky stayed high and ended up chasing after a friendly con, at which point we seperated.

The two dots were Spitfires flying in formation.  I shot down the trailer, then adjusted my aim and shot down the leader.  Climbed back up and started to fly towards A16, since I was hearing reports that the field was under attack.  Ran into a P-51B and after a long battle that mostly consisted of him running from me, I shot him down to.

I landed to refuel, then took off and headed east towards A21, because there were Lancasters bombing it.  I climbed to 24k and tried to position myself in their return path, but when I arrived they were still bombing.  I made a pass and hit the left wing of the first bomber, but he didn't take any damage.  I then made a pass on another one, hitting his fuselage before I broke off the attack.  He didn't take any damage either.  By that time there were P-51B's diving on my 6, so I broke off the attack and headed to the field.  Only three of them chased me down low, one got a little to fast and crashed into the ground.  The other two made lazy BnZ passes for about 5 minutes or so over my field.  I hit one the P-51s twice as he extended away on different passes, no damage.  One of the P-51s got a little to aggressive, we ended up in a rolling scissors where we rammed.  I bailed out and was promptly murdered in my chute by the other P-51.  I presume the guards on the field killed the pilot that bailed out of the P-51 that rammed me, in retaliation for my murder.

412th was those 51B's, Me, Fatz and fscage were a forward unit of 51's that ran into a good number maybe 8, 109G10's we fought and fought until our squaddies joined they fray. I'm positive I busted a radiator on one of your 109's.

We were at 30k and the 109's were at least 35k or more. We fought you guys all the way to the deck. Everytime I turned around I was yelling CHECK 6!! As I dove in for the kill on my damaged 109 I hit a tree I think.

WHATTA FIGHT!

There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

FDBs;  This was one of our more stellar performances...

We launched 10 (fatty, argyll, skernsk, gordo, mason, sling, myelo, sally, claidmor, and exile)

We proceded uneventfully enough NOE to P39, with Gordo, Sling and Myelo off lost somewhere.  Just outside of 39 we popped up to about 6k and approached for an ack killing, myself mason and exile lined up.

Knowing it would be easy with the 3 of us, (plus SBM who were even with us), I rolled over and dove in.  Looking starboard, I noticed with some suprise that mason and exile had broken off to go outside the ack.  Looking upwards, I noticed Nash and the other SBM and pulled up for a higher dive.  Looking downwards I noticed that I was the only ack target and promptly cartmanized "Screw you guys, I'm going home."  Two acks on the way to my auger, and left mason in charge.

Gordo, being a witless twit even in the company of the fat drunk bastards, confused his buttons and promptly shot myelo out of the sky.  As retribution, Beer God erased him from existance.  Sally, trying to write his name in the sand with his machine guns, augered on the dot underlying the exclaimation point.

Claidmor tried to read the scribble in the coastline sand.  Unfortunately given his literacy level, by the time he could discern "Sally wus here!" he had created a canadian sized hole in the ground.

Undeterred by the shotcomings of his comrades, Mason heroicly led the leftovers back to base to rearm.  Sling is still lost at this point, pretending to be some kind of CM type guy.

On the rearm pad, just behind skernsk and mason, argyll attempts to broadcast something in canuckish on the squad channel, but having missed the / key, when he hits 'b', 30mm takes both mason and skernsk out of commission.  Dreadfully ashamed of gross incompetence unthinkable even for a canuck or a fat drunk bastard, argyll quits aces high.

Sling, trying to find out where we are since he was lost trying to remember his 3 CM commands, promptly fails the idiot test and hits enter 3 times trying to convey a message.

Exile, being the lame, goody I'll make fancy schmancy TOD stuff type, of course is carefully rearming on his own pad, away from the riffraff some call his squadmates.  He and the sole remainder of SBM teamed up in some sort of dynamic duo type thing, but as we could care less about exile or what he does, I can't tell you anymore than thankfully he was killed out there somewhere.  If you see his body, do us a favor and spit on it if it's not too much trouble.

took off from A22 to backup Shills on bombing mission of 21 and 16. Both bases were hit pretty bad from shills when we got there, not much to clean up. Flattend both bases with bombs to spare. Landed safely at 18 with a couple of minutes to spare in Frame.

upped 8 Lancs
landed 5
lost 3 to enemy AC.

mission accomplished!!!

to the shills for making our job a little easier.

to Midnight and the 412th for keeeping those 234's and 190's off our six
