I need some advice on this fighter.

Last tour I started flying it with the 2x20mm option, and it feels like I'm on to something here...like the big LW secret.  I cant back it up with any sources or data, but the 2x20mm variant feels alot better than the 4x20mm option. It feels lighter, it feels like it rolls better, and it feels like it turns better. And when you get really low on gas (like 25% left in fwd, 0% in aft) it feels like a zero (slight overstatement).

Not for long though, and only if you're faster than 300, but in the first 180-270 degrees, I turn with just about everyone. All US fighters, be they blue, green or white, all not-brown spits, the N1k, the La7. If I dont get any hits in during those 270 degrees, I just dive away, get some speed, and run away from most of them. And those that I cant outrun like that, most of them I can outturn in those first 180 degrees. At least that is what it feels like.

It is as if as soon as you show that red 190-icon, everyone assumes you are in a D9, and they expect you to BnZ them to death. No one expects you to turn with them. Because we all know that LW rides cant turn (except the early 109s).

So far the a5 with the 2x20mm option seems to be an excellent in BnZ-situations, but also an excellent turner (under those conditions I mentioned above). My only problem with it is that it is not as easy to run away in it like in the D9.

I agree a lot of people expect a D9 or perhaps an A8. The A5 does have a almost magical "sweet spot" when low on fuel. Problem is useing it and still getting home.

Flew it for a tour and did well with it. I can't say that I can see any difference between the 2 guns packages as far as turning ability. Fuel seems to make MUCH more of a differnence.

I dunno about the outboard MG/FFs, still the 190a5 turns best of the 190s and just a tad worse than the 109g2. It's my fave ride, because it's got the 4x20mm killing power (Imagine an A6 with 2xMG151/20), and is able to make that one turn to doom an enemy plane... most really don't expect a 190 to pull a lead turn :]

Anyway, YES the a5 CAN turn, not for long but long enough. Try it on a really high-speed spit IX annnd get a good laugh when he pulls that break turn to the finish....... and... you don't  ... drop out ratatatatatatata

Flew the a5 allot, I agree with Ghost, it performs very well on low fuel but the time slot for using this advantage is very small.
I knife-fight it with about anything on 50% fuel as well, same for D9 and same for A8. I don't agree with; 'you can only B&Z in d9 and a8'.
The d9 turns great on -50% fuel as well (athough less than a5) and because of it's power can be used to good succes in E-fights (not only B&Z) where you can control the fight against many planes.
My biggest love at the moment is the a8, using it's high roll rate and flying it agressively, surprises allot of pilots. If you fly it at 10k into a furball you HAVE to fight because many planes will catch up with you if you try to run away. (yeah I know, I'm virtually suicidal). It is a bugger to stall fight, but it is possible.

the a8 with 2 x 20 is a joy to fly. I like the a8 better then any of the 190s in ah.

burn aft fuel first. mgff (a5) are useless for the most part they add little in killing power. Fly a 109e to see for yourself.

Now the f8 is fun to. the d9 will turn as well just at the correct speed and g. You wont out turn much in it but its far from a simple bnz plane.

Take an a5 2 x 20 the f8 the a8 2 x 20 and the d9 i usually take 75% in the a5 or 50 and a dt. 75 on the a8 anf f8 and 50 dt on dora. Burn your aft tank first. you will see each has a "quality" that makes one appreciate the genious that is Kurt Tank.

ps the mgff drop more the the mg151/20. I would bet that in a snapshot most mgff miss.

From this thread:  Fw190, Outboard Cannons

Hristo tested both 190a8 variants and discovered the following:

"190A-8 with 2 20mm accelerates 5% better than with 4 20mm (time 200 - 300 mph IAS on the deck).
190A-8 with 2 20mm climbs 6% better than with 4 20mm (time 5 - 10k).

190A-8 with 2 20mm zoomclimbs 3% better than with 4 20mm (zoom from 400 mph IAS on the deck).

190A-8 with 2 20mm is equally fast as with 4 20mm (deck speed).

190A-8 with 2 20mm has 45% less firepower than 4 20mm version (hanger test).

Roll rate is same, while roll inertia is hard to quantify. Same for sustained turn.

All in all, differences are negligible, except the firepower. Draw your own conclusions"
