12 PLane spotters found guilty of espionage in greece

stuff about the trial above.

Seems that the greece doesn't have many plane spotters and airshows.  The authorities don't seem to understand why people would want to watch planes.

The trial sounds as if it was dodgy too from what i've read.
"Willy's gone and made another,
Something like it's elder brother-
Wing tips rounded, spinner's bigger.
Unbraced tailplane ends it's figure.
One-O-nine F is it's name-
F is for futile, not for fame."

I can remember being warned not to carry cameras or recording devices on the train through Communist held East Germany on our way to Berlin.

Makes you wonder.

Voss, there's nothing to "wonder" about. They were there as spies, got caught and got off awful damn easy, IMO. What the Greeks SHOULD do is shoot them.

I'm with Elf on this one.

Worse spy is the one spying on a friendly country.
They should have never been able to leave Greek soil.

You're right, Animal. Oh, and since you got so close to that Cruise Missile (an American secret), we're sending the nukes over right away.

Better duck, Spy.

Different situation.
I was walking along my own beach a few miles from here. I'm just a pawn in a high game of espionage.

If those guys were Russian or from the Middle-East, their luck would be different.

Read the article. They were monotoring troop movements by keeping track of the individual tail numbers on the Greek planes. They're damn lucky they only got three years. If a group of Arabs were writing down the tail numbers and the date and time of arrival, whats its cargo was, etc, etc on Air Force planes they would sit in jail for three years before the trial even began.
