Question:  Should an HE round bounce off of an armored vehicle?

I understand that AP rounds should bounce off if it doesn't penetrate the vehicle's armor, but shouldn't an HE round explode on contact with a vehicle?

Yes they bounce . In books on WWII that i have read, and being a tank Mech. M1A1, M88, M2A2,A3 sometime rounds would bounce off. most of the time they would just splatter. The book "Death Traps" is oputstanding story of a guys job to remove destroyed tanks form the battle fields in Europe. The Shermans/ most allied tanks muzzle velocity was so low it would splatter or bounce off the armor of the Germans tanks.

On the other hand I have hit a M-8 with a HE from 300 in a panzer and it bounced. Was'nt to happy cause he shot me an and i died. The GV needs some serious work.

Thanks for the reply.  What is the mechanism that makes an HE round explode?  And what would cause this mechanism not to detonate upon impact (even if it bounced off)?

i am attaching a image. ihope it goes thru. The HE rounds were a hollowed shell some filled with blasting cap and other just filled with high explosive hence the name High Explosive. Upon impact it would explode. Depending on what angle the round hit the targets armor. It would splatter or too high of an angle it would  bounce off.

Sorry no pic.

Even if the HE round hit the target and exploed, the armor would portect it from most of the damage inflected.

M8's can load AP, he probably hit you from the side with AP.  That'll get ya dead in one hit (side shot, higher than the tread)
