Reading that thread that sunchaser started got me to thinking. There aren't too many pilots around here dedicated to keeping bombers over the enemy fields and goons on the way, and there are even fewer than that who are really good at it.

We've been punching out a field in a fairly busy part of the arena numerous times. We hear over RW that our goon(s) got shot down.

On RW-"Any other goons on the way?!?!"
"We need one now" followed by offers to auger for goon, etc.

I type into contry channel, "need troops at Ax now!"

Then on RW comes that monotone, deep pitched voice of sunchaser, "Goon, here, Troops out". Sunchaser is the best goon pilot in the game, and dependable to boot.

It is rumored that the marines periodically have to use sunchaser to do deep insertion missions in his goonie. But please keep that between us, its top secret you know...

Wow with all this praise Sunchaser has been getting lately I can see his head from my house when I look out the living room window.

Ok...maybe its not that bad yet, but if it gets any worse I wont be able to see the sun set from my house.

Truth be told, I love gooning....its the ultimate Hail Mary to sneak a goon under a fight, or have your teamates plow you a path as you squeak in and get the troops out.

Sure, there are all too many times when someone barks "We need a goon here" or "Are troops enroute?" And I can't tell you how many times I've taken the goon, per their request, only to find the field totally up and not a soul in site to cover me. Its maddening but the successful runs linger longer in my memory than the bad ones.

I am speechless....almost.

Thanks hblair and all.

I do actually have a contract to deliver the Mexican Army to France.

I think 2 grunts and a Chihuahua is a bit much but the Mexicans are taking no chances.
