Saturday TOD timings½

I was supposed to fly tonight, so like a good fella I checked what time the frame started on the events website.

15:00 EST, same as always.

So then I checked what time that would be in København from the time converter on the AH webpage.

22:00 CET same as always, so I was surprised to hell to find every one in the air at 21:40 when I logged on.

Now, seeing as every one else was already up, I'm obviously the one that missed the clue.

But I'd be very gratefull if some one could point out exactly where I screwed up.

Well i believe daylight saving time changes have been occuring world wide lately
May have something to do with it.

Well 15:00 EST is normally 21:00 CET it is only when the summertime change comes in play that it is 22:00 and thats only for 1 week (europe changes one week earlier than U.S)

BTW were is that time converter on AH web page u are refering to

USA does not use EST right now.

EST is Eastern Standard Time.

Right now we are on daylight savings time, so the Eastern time zone is Eastern Daylight Time or EDT.

The event today started at 1500 EDT, not 1500 EST.

It's probably time to start giving out event times in UTC.
Then people can just go here to figure out what time it is locally:  http://www.time.gov/timezone.cgi?UTC/s/0/java

Apart from one week when we in Europe changed to Daylight Savings a week ahead of the US, CET is always 6 hours ahead of Eastern [current] time, whether it happens to be EST or EDT.  The event started at 15.00 Eastern time (EDT to be exact) and 15 + 6 = 21, not 22.  Therefore start time in Central Europe is 21.00.

I do appreciate, Seeker, that the website may say that the Saturday TODs start at 15.00 EST, but if everyone else can get to the arena at the right time, I can't really understand why you can't also?

Seeker I almost made the same mistake, cept I went into the MA before the ToD started and asked what fediddleing time was it?

I had a 2 hour change too, went from 5pm NZ Time (GMT+12) to 3pm NZ Time. Combined Daylight Savings switches are squeakes!

Actually, I have just been giving this matter some more thought.  Now, do we agree that EST is an hour earlier than EDT?  Therefore, if you are saying the event should have started at 15.00 EST, then that would be equivalent to 16.00 EDT, right?  However, it actually started at 15.00 EDT, which is 14.00 EST, is it not?  In which case, the start time would have been 20.00 CET, meaning you would have been late anyway, by an extra hour!  Sorry, seems according to the website the event actually started an hour late, giving you a potential extra hour to check the times!

Well, to be honest Flossy I seem to remember you posting on another newsgroup that the event timings had changed to EDT; which I'm not familiar with. So I thought I be prepared and double check the web site, which said 1500 EST; same as always. Then, just to check, I went to the time conversion page:

22:00:00 Sun Apr 27 2002 in CET

No, I'm not trying to tell the events team what time they run their events, only that they hold them at the times they advertise on the website.

EDT is simply the name for Eastern Daylight savings time - in other words, what they use after putting the clocks forward!  The events still start at the same time as far as everybody - US, UK and Europe! - are concerned - that is the same local time in each case.

Unfortunately, it seems the website has not been updated, then.... however, I think most people realise that the time is still the same in EDT.

May I suggest you use EST5EDT for the conversion in future, as this allows for current status of Daylight Savings in Eastern time...
