Looking for more fps?
« on: March 12, 2001, 10:41:00 AM »
After downloading the new patch for 1.06, I flew through the clouds and realized that I had lost some fps with the new patch.

Now most of you probably know this already, but here is what I did.....

I run a celeron 566 OC to 636 with 128k PC100 RAM and an old Viper 770 Non-Ultra vid card. I get in the worst of conditions(hangers burning, 20 plane fuball, etc.) 25 fps and normally 45-55 fps during my average flight/fight. I went to my friends puter store and picked up an Asus 7100 vid card(GForce2 MX 32meg) for $100.00.

Now with the old card, at 1024x768, I would get 26fps in the tower...my new little card at the same res...71fps!!! Now I can run at 1600x1200 32 bit and get nothing below 30fps and 60 fps for normal fights/flights.

I have chosen to run at 1200 res due to old age and vision issues I get fps in the 40-70 range.

If your looking for added performance at a low price, the GForce2 MX cards are excellent! Very seldom can you spend $100.00 and achieve such a performance enhancement.

Hope this helps some of you.

Ahh, but Saw, they are in a different world!  We are 'down here' taking their bases while they are 'up there' taking out our high flying fighters...no threat yet!

Ice,
TNT2 Ultra 32 meg owner here, do you know if I would expect better FPS by going to another 32 meg card?  Curious...maybe I should post this in the Hardware section.

Knights and Bishops fight each other?  When did this start?

LOL!

The MX cards are really good for the money.  Rip, I think you'd see a difference with the MX card over what you have, buy it, try it and if you don't see enough improvment send it back.

I got celeron 566@850 and also same type V770, but I get over 50 FPS in tower and in flight lookin forward. (det v6.50)
oh.. and thats in 1024x768 also

Though, im awaiting for ATI Radeon 64mb VIVO vido card which I ordered last week.
I chose it over MX for memory/price/VIVO/picture quality
Got to see if my decision was right
(then I could record/watch videos  )

Lets see, we reset by hammaring the Bish in the AM on Sunday and finished another reset on Sunday in the PM.

It actually happens all the time and I find myself always asking when Knits get hammered if there are any "good" rook/bish fights going on(many can vouch for me because I always say it with humor on open channel. )

Thks for the advice. <S>

Same card and res with 800p111, 392 megs ram.
steady 100 frame rates in tower, same at 13th tas altitude.

65-70 in clouds or down low<occasionly> in furball.

GForce card is a good investment.

My setup is/was about the same. G2-GTS 32meg getting 70+ flying but only 20+ in the smoke. I changed out the 256 ram to pc133 sync mem and am now getting 40+ in the smoke. My Abit will not OC the buss on the AGP. Might be something to try later, mem is getting cheap.

Man my computer sucks big time.
all I have is a PII with 333mhz and a voodoo 5, 64mb vidio card and in tower I get 25fps and in flight I get up to about 35fps, I really have to upgrade my comp some more.

Yer, i got one on order. I ordered it about a week ago. Asus AGP-7100 GForce2 MX.

I too have a 770 non-ultra, and have similar frame rate. I bought 128 megs more RAM for $120 NZ ($60 US) to give me 256 total and it has given me about 20% increase i guestimate. The new MX will make it kick ass!

Before buying a new MX card bear in mind that Guillemot (Hercules) has announced that they will soon be launching their new 3D Prophet 4500 card, based on the new Kyro2 chipset.

They are announcing similar performances to the GTS Pro 64MB DDR cards and a price down to what you could expect of a 32MB MX card.

The Kyro2 chipset has been designed by STMicroelectronics, partly responsible for nVidia current success.

Take a look:

Hope you find it useful.

Wolf I was running a pII 350 withthe voodoo 5 card and getting 40 - 50 fps in normal flight. I'm surprised your not getting a better fr. HAve you tried overclocking it?
