Cougar problem
« on: April 29, 2002, 04:09:53 PM »
Got my new Cougar in and fiddlin with it a bit. It's obviously much smarter than I am.

A couple questions for you folks that have more time with yer Cougar or more smarts than me:

In the AH stick mapping menu I can't get AH to recognize any of the buttons on the throttle. Any one know a fix for that?

Is it necessary to wipe out the AH stick mapper to use a program loaded into the Cougar (this is a question for some time in the far distant future after I figure out how to load a program into the cougar)

Thanks.

Fire up the HOTAS Cougar Control Panel program and you'll see a big green button on the right of the screen saying "Button & Axis emulation is on" if you click this the button should go red and the stick will act like a normal joystick and the buttons on the Cougar will operate DX buttons in Windows.

You're going to miss out on a lot of the good stuff the Cougar can do, I've posted a profile in this forum, give that a try and see how you get on. The FOXY program is very each to use. If you'd like to try my profile unzip it to FOXY/FILES and then start the FOXY program then press the F8 key or go to the menu bar and select FILE - OPEN JOYSTICK FILE AND ASSOCIATED MACRO FILE and select my profile in the list then either press the F12 key to download the profile or go to  the menu bar and select DOWNLOAD - DOWNLOAD XXX (XXX being the profile name you just opened) its as simple as that. Profiles can be made using FOXY or simple  windows notepad. The wizards are extremely helpful and I hardly picked up the manual.

Thanks a heap Revvin. I've started (and stopped and started over again) workin with th Foxy program and amazingly enough gotten the hang of programming all the hats and buttons. No small leap for one as technologically inept as me.

Another question if you don't mind. I can't seem to get a smooth (perhaps manageable is a better term) response from the joy stick. I assume the JS is the x axis. I was usin and old TM topgun and had programmed the pitch axis in the AH JS setup. That same adjustment to pitch that worked well on my Topgun sends me into spinning embarassment with the Cougar. Any tips on how to scale the Cougar JS for us ham handed types so as to avoid death spirals would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not quite sure what you are getting at there...is it a damper adjustment you need? you can map the axis in the Cougar Control Panel to set deadbands and responsiveness. Mine is at default and is fine for me although I know Nexx was playing around with a few settings.

The speed brake button on my throttle doesn't seem to work....that is when I go into Foxy GUI and select it it doesn't register. IS that a broken switch or am I again doin somethin wrong ?

Speed brake button? which way? to the left is button T9 and to the right is the lataching button T10. Make sure you have the right settings as I mentioned above so that the Cougar acts as a normal DX stick.
