Ahh too much fun.

Notice that the important person here- B.Gen. MacKenzie ret. basically said it was a crock of crap. That is because that fine gentleman was and probably is the best commander the Can army ever got in his generation.

His contemporaries and predeccesors are a bunch of toejamlicking politicized cowards tards and inept rank climbers. Don't be surprised by anything they come out with or do- they created an army where generals outnumbred AFV's during the 90's.

Much of the attitude towards the armed forces in Canada comes from the odd belief that you only joined because you failed high school. Thus most of the servicemen get held in a contemptuous way by anyone who has not served themselves in the armed forces. Canadians are still obsessed by a belief that they are a "militia" people, where anyone naturally born in the country can pick up a rifle and be the best soldier that ever walked the earth.

Yet it has been the highly proffesional trained and motivated armed forces they have that does all the work, and then gets mostly ignored.

As a whole it is too strange to explain, only experienced. Generally they are a confused people who believe right wing polotic yet vote left wing politicians. Hate their tax load yet demand incredible amounts of social services. Complain about becoming americanized yet cannot define a culture of thier own (besides anti-americanism).

Don't try and understand. It will just make your head hurt.

Without being too complicated, why should Canada have a military?  Who the hell is gonna invade/attack a country thats bordered to the south by the USA and to the north by a big frozen Artic circle?

2 things:

1. Canada is a great and beautiful country and the Canadian people are some of the friendliest and  most hospitipal people I know of. I love Canada. I do not like to hear people trashing Canadians.

2.

How in the HELL can so many of you overlook exactly what Cpl. Perry did, for Christ's sakes? He placed a cigarette in another human being's mouth- and not only that but a human being who was unable to protest because he was friggin dead. And then he placed a sign around this deceased Al Queda fighter's neck, he posed with him, and that would have all been well and good up to that point- but when he LIT THAT CIGARETTE, at that point, IMO, he became a criminal.

Elfenwolfy, answer me this: Where was the liberal outrage when President Clinton encouraged that young women to utililize a tobacco product???  You libs were strangely silent then. :D

Two major differences- Monica Lewinsky willingly shared that cigar with Bill, and the cigar was never lit.

Now if I were a troll- but I ain't- I would say something like Cpl. Perry should have to go through classes on the dangers of tobacco, but like I said, I ain't no troll.

Good thread.

Gman, Nash, Pongo, Sclew...I agree.

Animal: Just because one guy says something doesn't mean they all feel that way. Most Canuk soldiers I've known enjoyed spending time with soldiers from the U.S. as well as other countries. Lets not forget these soldiers are mostly young men talking to these reporters who will slice and dice what they say as it suits them.

Rip: That exact question gets asked alot up here. Personally I like  having a military I just wish they would fund it better or cut the numbers and spend the savings on newer equipment.

Cheers!!

Elfnwolf, you're too juevenile to have been a vietnam veteran. You can't be over the age of 17.

Now. I can respect easymos opinions because he's not a a lame fool trying to relive his childhood on the boards. Plus, he's a real vietnam vet, unlike that lil elfnwolf spastic.

Hmm... calling someone a spastic in order to insult them is what I would consider juvenile, hblair.

Anyway, Elfenwolf's posts are rarely serious and the worst thing that could be said about them is that they are irreverent.

An adjective that could be used to describe that soldier's actions, BTW.

Dowding Hey, I laughed. Somehow being called a "spastic" by hblair isn't an insult.

Welcome back, hblair. Hope you had a nice vacation.
