I find it very counter productive to have a perked varient of a common plane identified from miles away.  Its unrealistic, but more importantly it obliterates a huge piece of fun in discovering that the plane you just engaged isnt the run of the mill .

The current Spit14 situation is a perfect example, how the fudge can it be justified that someone can identify a 14 from 2 miles away?  The paint scheme needs to be diferentiated in some way for identification when closer (painted wingtips, or some other obvious signal like the F4U-C -vs- F4U-D)

Tell me two things:

1.  Why should I have to treat every Spit I face as if it had the performance of the Spit 14?

2.  How many Spit 14's flew on the front lines alongside Spit 1's?

Reason #1:  Same reason we have to treat every 109 we face as if it might be a 'tater gun' equipped G10, or that 190 "might" be an A5 or an A8.

Reply to question #2:  How many times did the G10 and 109E and 109F fly together on the same front?  Same principle should apply to both sides.

The celebrity status granted to those flying perk planes should not be withdrawn.  Think of the tears of anguish we would see when perk-flyers didn't get the attention they merited.

I disagree hooligan. The icon is the one and only reason I dont even think about flying a spit14 or 152 or F4u4. It turns you into a piņata that every whoopee dweeb around will disengage from their fights and do their darndest to HO you.

(Disclaimer, I am a newbie whos only been playin for a few weeks)
Could this be why the f4u-1C has a better kill ratio than the f4u-4?  It seems to me that the f4u-4 is a significantly better plane overall, yet the f4u-1C seems to do better.  The only times i've flown the spit 14 or f4u-4, the only use I could be in a fight was to keep a half a dozen fighters busy.

Why not either reduce the number of perks needed, or remove the perk plane tags?

besides, take a look at the LW planes.

109G10 is SIGNIFICANTLY different and vastly superior to the 109E, yet there is no way to tell them apart unless you get in so close you can see the paint scheme and perhaps see the cockpit cage... OR you notice that 109 climbs like a mother effer.. thats when you know which 109 you facing.

The 190's... 190A5 is vastly inferior to the 190D9. Usually I can only tell the D9 apart because the Dorka weenies run constantly or do unholy zooms OR accelerate damn quick.

Now the Spit14 and the F4U4 have almost the same performance differences than the above. Yet the perk icon makes them nearly impossible to fly 'proper'. If the CHOG had perk icon i'd betcha itd be the first one in a flight of 20 F4U-D's to get shot down. Ive even seen (and I do it myself) people in hurri1's and spit 1's going for a HO agains the C-Hog just to see if they can bring it down. *G*

I agree TAC, the G-10 is totally different from the 109E/F.....which means that you have to treat every 109 you encounter as if it has the speed/climb of the G-10 but the turning ability of the F.

Which sucks, especially since they're almost identical looking at all ranges over 100 yards.  Aside from the G-2, I cannot tell apart any of the 109's at ranges greater than 100 yards and my SA versus 109's really suffers.

I used to like the AH ICON system, but as more and more planes are added I find myself wishing there was a better way to tell them apart.  I REALLY liked someone's idea that under 1000 yards it should change to showing the exact plane type; above that it could be the generic one.  SUch a system would both permit the Perk drivers a large amount of freedom, and fix the current troubles with other Spits/109's/190's at the same time.

can we have this as an option setting for the arena?  If it isn't allowed in the MA for some reason (of which I'd like to hear about), I sure would like to see it in the CT or SEA.

Gotto agree with the icons, pretty boring that you get hunted by 20 guys just because it says "152" over your head, after all, the guy who kills ya get  like 1 perk tops since he's usually a LA7 guy or similair.

The TA152 is different though, those long wings make it easier to identify, don't see that it is an TA152 from 6k though.

Part of HT's idea with the perk system is that people should have the joy of hunting people down and ruining their days by "freeing" them from perk points, works pretty well ;)

Problem is it works too well, too many planes are being flown too little.

There were some good ideas on this very issue in this thread ..

Lot of good ideas in it, but didn't get much feed back then. Personally, I think MY idea's the best! :D

Perk tags are a fact of life. Live with it, and stop whining about it, because its not going to change. Having a huge neon sign that says "come kill me, I'm special" is the penance you have to pay for flying an aircraft with a huge performance edge over the enemy.

I thought the perks were the pennance to pay for them?
