I'm a big fan, I don't follow the comic books but spidey has always been a fav of mine, I have wallpapers and screen savers etc before they even started making the movie =)

The movie is worth seeing =)

I thought the movie was quite good.

They did fudge some of the original story though.

1)  Spideys WEB stuff in the comic book was mechanical and made/designed by Parker.  Later on in the comic book he changed his WEB solution so it would decompose quickly to make the environmentalists happy (oy!).

2)  In the comic book his Aunt was blind.

3)  Green Goblin did not wear a suit to make him look like he does in the movie.

4)  He could only scale walls due to how he designed his suit.  He could not scale walls without his suit in the comic book.

I liked the fact they kept him human in movie.  He was this way in the comic book.  The only two things he actually had in the comic book was his spidey sense and quick reflexes.

In the movie, they did a nice job of mixing the effects with the story line.  I thought they did a good job of mixing the action with the love interest part.  Good balance.

Skuzzy, I don't think you got this right at all.

His Aunt had a weak heart, but I don't think she was ever blind. In the first ever story, Parker went on a T.V. show and climbed the studio wall in his civilian clothes. Finally, he changed his web solution, but not for the reasons you gave (environmentalists weren't even thought of in those days).

Yes, Osborn had to wear a suit as the Green Goblin. He was too well known, otherwise.

I haven't seen the movie yet. Gotta wait until all the kids are done rushing the theaters.

Would it be redundant to have a "geek" forum?  :D

Quite right about Aunt May Voss,...my bad.

In the original comic book (first issue), he could not climb without his suit.  He designed it with the 'hooks' as it were.
He could scale objects well, but could not go past vertical to the upside down position without his suit.

His change to his web solution was in direct response to the city governments complaints about the webs hanging around on the buildings.  In one of the panes, an engineer shows what the city would look like after years of spideys abuse.

Osborne wore a mask, but the rest of him was morphed from the person to the gobby look.

I would scan in the issues, but copyright infringement would bite me.

Yes, I have a first edition Spiderman and a first edition Superman.  Both in mint condition.

I avoided much of the hype about the movie and chose to re-read the original comic book.  I was pleasantly surprised how well they kept Parkers personna true to the comic book.

Uh,..by the very fact we are posting in this BBS,...wouldn't that make us all geeks? :D  I think the additional forum would be redundant.

Yeah, I wasn't commenting on the geekiness of this thread specifically but on the BB in general. However, some threads are more geeky than others. ;)

Yeah, I liked the movie too...very good in all aspects as far as I'm concerned and I thought the costumes were very well done.  As a plus, I saw it at the Drive-in.  :)

Saw a comment by the actor playing Spidey.  He said they computer scanned his body in order to make the suits for him and there were over 30 suits made for the movie.
His big complaint was the zippers kept breaking and they would just sew him into the suit, which made bathroom breaks an interesting challenge.

Putting aside any differences between the comic and the movie, I think the movie definately stands on its own merits.

I only wondered why he dove after the girl from the building and not use the web for saving her?

Ya, I know, but still,...would have been cool to see him zap her with a web and reel her in like a fish,....uh,....don't read anything into that. :D

Well, I have it too, Skuzzy. In fact, "Amazing Fantasies" #15 was his first appearance. I have them all. Anything, in fact, that had Spidey even as a cameo. I wouldn't ask you to scan anything that old. I have never read some of them and it wouldn't be a good idea, anyway. The oil from your hands can cause the pages to prematurely yellow and deteriorate.

I must admit, I don't recall anything about hooks in his costume, nor the morph routine with the Goblin. I guess you 'out-geeked' me.:D
