What is the relationship of the red x to the damage model?
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

He meant to post this instead of the big red X. :D

i fly the tiffie a lot, i don't really have a problem with radiator hits personally.

1st ping on Typhoon kills the radiator about 90% of the time in my experience.

Bullets are bit slow. They need some time before they understood they hit something and they have to explode now. That's usually when they're almost through the whole aircraft :)

If ya wanna talk about giant glass radiators we gotta talk about the Yak cause it's the king in this department.

If I had to chose whether Yak or Typhoon is "better" on getting your radiator shot it would be a tough decission to make. Both planes have problems with this kind of damage and even a single ping from .50 cals dead 6  1k away kills your radiator with no problems.... Add a fact that Yak with radiator hit has about 10 seconds of powered flight left and in Typhoon you have just a bit more... oh well...

That's a good point. I'd have to say the Typhoon is more prone to radiator damage, but the Yak is way more screwed when it happens. Not only does the Typhoon last longer with the radiator damaged, but it can actually 'glide' -- where the Yak glides about as well as a brick thrown by an uncoordinated gorilla.

7.9 mm will wound your Pilot..... (up to 5 pings)
.50 cal will kill radiator from any position
20 or 30 mm will take of elevators (i have no experience with this because i do not die so often :D )

most funny fight is Tiffie Vs. Panzer

do you know whos radiator or pilot will die 1st ?
Panzers by 4x20 or tiffies by 1x7.9mm :D :D

After your engine stops reduce RPM to minimum (not the throttle on the Joystick but the RPM (keypad +/- keys)). Since Yak has not autofeathering prop you need to decrease the RPM of the prop as much as possible to reduce drag the spining prop is causing. If you do this soon enough even Yak can glide quite well... Same thing works for any AH AC where your prop wont stop spining after you kill the engine in flight... Of course no airplane glides you home when your engine stops 500 feet AGL and you arent lined on the runway and on finals at the moment... :)
