BIG problem = or is this normal ???
« on: May 07, 2002, 02:53:23 PM »
ANYTIME I'm within engagement range ie: icon range with a con, his icon disappears on an off for up to a second at a time. This ONLY happens with cons. Friendlies within that range are rock solid

It's not occasionally, it's every time. Expect it now. Very difficult with a manuvering con. But what I don't understand is that friendly icons don't disappear.

Ping tests showing no lost packets, and with friendlys not "blinking" THAT doesn't factor in anyway

WHASSSSUP WIT DAT ???

Is this a feature ??, is this normal ??

I'm at a loss.

The only thing abnormal with the program running online or off is a "white noise" static line that flashes right at the very bottom of the screen. Changing graphics setups does nothing to cure that problem. But that is really not a problem.

Blinking con icons is..

Anyone come across a problem like this ???

Any help greatly appreciated :)

Isnt there some sort of vid setting that helps with disappearing icons?

It could also be a problem with the gunsight bitmap.

Sorry I cant be of more help :)

In AH icons are hidden when the bandit is obscured by canopy frames or any part of the aircraft.  I think it's intended to prevent the famous WB tactic of aiming at the icon when the bandit is under your nose.

No funked, if I have a con inbound say 4.3 at my 12, he will start blinking. If it were intermittant, it would make sense, but it happens way to much, and only with cons...

Very wierd.

Any particular plane that you're flying, or will it happen in any plane?

What's the altitude of the enemy cons?  At long range, icons disappear when people are on the deck.  As people pop up (say they're in a looping fight), their icons will reappear and then disappear again when they go lower.

is this in a fighter or through buff gunsights?

it *used* be a buff bug, then it was fixed, but I've had it happen again a few times in the B-17 belly turret

Actually when 1.08 was first released this was a common bug..

Much more noticable inside d1.0 like when closing in.

It may be a connection warp. But the friendlies aren't blinking. This is in all views. Up where terrain wouldn't be a factor. May have had a 32 plane limit problem the last couple of sorties. ( a furball :D ) But happens with 2 or 3 in open scenery.

NO problems with WBIII or IL-2. And they take alot more juice.

AMD t-bird 1.2
Epox EP-8K7A+ MB
Latest 4 in 1 drivers
512 DDR ram
latest dx drivers
Asus GeForce2 pro 11.01c drivers
Tweakme optimized
Ibm deskstar 20meg hard drive
Soundblaster 512

Running "end it all" before a game session

Thanks guys

what gunsight are you using?

Do they disappear in the site it self or anywhere in your 12 view?

I AM A DOPE

Last time up I watched, and when the icons disappeared the con was passing through a canopy support. All is normal.

BUT..

That's pretty lame IMO. Disable icons on the fusealuge (sp) but canopy supports ???

I'll get used to it. But the cure seems way worse than the problem it was designed to cure.

Blinkin icons....

Takes a deep breath..and moves on...

Thanks guys...new geek here :)

Poopster! What's this about growing pains? I've met a lot of WBers, but I think you were the tallest I ever met.

Glad you got your problem sorted out. How do you like this sim so far?  I think the programming effort and attention to detail is beyond my wildest dreams. Have you noticed that if taking off from a field where the siren is sounding, as you go past the tower the siren pitch goes down because they've even gone as far as to model the Doppler Effect. Poop - do you still play WB3, or are you here permanently now?
