So I got myself a copy of this game thinking "well, I can at least try it".

Turns out to be one of the best computergames Ive played in years.

If you like D&D RPGs, this one is a must. The music and the graphis are incredible. Its like being there, or watching it on film.

AWESOME

I've been playing too...

Your description hit home - it IS like watching a movie... which can be kind of boring, since you really don't have to do a whole lot.

Incredible graphics though, and the lack of any pauses or loading screens is pretty nifty.

the DS Editor is to be released tommorrow.  Some of the community stuff looks like fun.

I suggest getting some of the mods that increase the monster's intelligence.

I've been playing it too, but I find it hard to get into sometimes.  It seems like too much of "move 20 feet, kill monsters, pick up gold, move 20 feet, kill monsters" and not enough story.  It is a cool hack & slash game though.
Has anyone tried the multiplayer on it yet?

Maybe its because I've just played through my first two hours of it. But for me the feeling of being there is really what makes this one stand out. First you get sucked in by the opening scenes and the narrators story about the 10th legion, then suddenly as your plowing your fields or whatever, BAM your thrown right into this big adventure.

I still havent gotten that far yet, but I'm loving every second of it.

[edit] Forgot about the music. That is probably one of the bigger reasons why it sucks you in.

Superfly hit on the very reason why I did not purchase this game.  Supposedly, it has less of a storyline than Diablo / Diablo II.  (s-fly, shouldn't you be building more planes right now and not posting?  like some Japanese carrier strike AC?  and a dauntless?  :D )

I just got Morrowind myself.  If I ever find time to play it, I'll let you know how that goes.  It should be incredible though, so open ended!

Kratzer...  I'm not pretty.  ;)  please don't use that word and my name together.  hehe

I agree with Super.  I'm waaay into the game and it's still the same hack, move, hack, move.  Even though I agree DS is about the best looking game I've seen, the gameplay is tedious.

I have, however, had some fun with the Exploding Powder combat spell.  If you throw it at the ground instead of a monster it'll bounce, slow down, and speed up like a combo bowling/golf ball, and responds very well to the terrain. It's fun to pick out a monster in a group and rim shot him with a strategic bounce way outside the range of any other weapon you've got.

But other than that, I find that my weapons and armor always seem underpowered for the intermitable wilderness areas I'm currently playing.  Even when I aquired the grenade launcher, flamethrower, and dragon mini-gun!   I shoulda gone through those monsters like Alien or Predator on PCP in a petting zoo.

When I know there's a town or shop somewhere ahead I find that if I race thru the area, not stopping for any monsters or fights, I can get to the shop, buy decent stuff and return to kill what I left behind.

I've yet to try multiplayer tho and haven't reached the endgame.

If you could put from Baldur's Gate 2 into the DS engine, you'd really have something.

Too bad they dumbed it down.  Nonexistant story and endless mobs get awful boring.

The main reward seems to be getting to the next shop and upgrading your gear, then checking out how cool you look in your new armor.

The other DS (Desert Siege for Ghost Recon) is pretty good though!

Unfortunately, that's the only reward throughout the entire game.  Blah...click to move forward...blah...watch as party fights....blah...hit "H"...hit "M"...blah..."H"..."M"...blah..gather loot...blah.  Repeat ad naseum.

About 1/4 or 1/3 through I had a solid party going with 7 characters and a mule.  Loaded 'em up nice and basically did nothing more for the rest of the game other than what I listed above.  Hell, my 4 melee characters used the same weapons for well over half the game (swords, axes, and a hammer that had a 15% chance of freezing the opponent.)   There simply wasn't a need to use anything else.  And I only bothered to use the higher level spells with my mages for some variety.

It's a beautiful game, no doubt.  But repatative as hell and pretty boring.  With the baddies scaling up in strength basically even with your party, the fights never get more difficult.  If you can win one, you can pretty much win them all.  I was never really forced to use any strategy other than "wade in and kick everyone's ass."

Maybe if the loot you gathered was cooler (most of it's obviously stuff with abilities generated randomly) there'd be more payoff.  Some of my buddies have gotten into the multi-player game, searching for complete sets of some of the rare armor and whatnot.

If you dig mindless Hack 'n' Slash (ie. Diablo or Icewind Dale type stuff), you'll probably enjoy Dungeon Seige.  It does that pretty well, and looks great doing it.  If you like some meat to your RPG's, this isn't gonna be for you.
