Hello ACES HIGH
« on: May 10, 2002, 07:21:05 AM »
Today is the second day of my trial period, obviously still feeling my way around and only an hour or so stick time in this sim but hundreds in warbirds. (can I say that here ?)

A few questions if I may.

Does anyone have an aces high profile for the MS Precision Pro USB that they can forward me, just to save some time :)

How do you get points to select some of the flashier aircraft ?

Is name calling encouraged/allowed on the common channel ?

Can you change the ingame sounds, cannon, aircraft etc ?

First impressions, love the terrains, beaches etc, love the stats system that you can view, can't really comment on the FM's as I haven't enough stick time yet, don't like the constant tracer effect but I'm sure I will get used to it.

I really like the fact that the arenas are full or quite populated, don't  like the guy that called me a "face shooting salamander" on common when he lost a head on that he participated in ;)

All in all, quite positive really, if you see me in the arena give me a call and invite me to wing up, certainly make the learning curve shorter.

Thanks

Welcome

Sorry I do not have a profile for the MS Pro

Too fly the flashier aircraft, you need to earn perk points. You earn fighter perks by killing other planes and bomber perks while bombing (shooting down other planes doesn't hurt either ;) )

Name calling isn't encouraged also I dont really pay attention to common channel.

changing sounds not really sure but i believe it is possible.

FM's take a little while to get used to, see the drex thread.

You can turn off tracers, combat trim, and auto take-off if you like.

and ignore the idiots

welcome again

Welcome aboard!

Sounds can be changed via substitution, check out the Sounds forum on this BBS.

Tracers have a compound in the bullet base that burns upon firing, leaving a visible trail. HTC simulates this. However, you can turn off the tracers altogether.

Ignore the comments in the buffer. It takes two to have an HO.

Welcome aboard Hotseat!

I can send you my pre pro profile when I get home this evening.
Also, I'd turn tracers off. You'll get used to it, but the guys you're shooting at never do. :)

go to the sound forum and look for the MITSU sound link....he has fantastic sounds you can dnload.... they work great.

perk points work 2 ways.....

1- if ya use an old type plane like spit1, hurri1, 202 and you don't HO(head-on) like you did 2 me after i shot down 2 of your 17's, and you land those kills, you get very good perk points.

2- if ya use and newer model la7, 51, spit you don't get many perks unless you land a couple of kills

now the trick is to LAND kills, not spend your day HO'in innocent buff shootin ponies like mine:p

BTW i say that to every HO'in wimp in the arena...I really mean to say that 2...your a wimp for HO'in...again thats an opinion...funny, i'm aloud to have an opinion.:D

BTW I did not participate in your HO'in....did you see tracers comin from my plane....NO.

BTW don't take everything said on channel 1 seriously, some of us have ongoin funny banter Xchange with the opposin forces like those dress wearin brainless bishes:eek:

Thanks for the replies etc, have downloaded the help files so it should make it easier now to get up to speed.

Hey SLO, nothing personal intended, didn't mention any names on purpose.  Was killed by you once though and don't remember you being on my 6

That's enough of head ons, glad to be here and looking forward to the next 12 days or so or maybe even longer,

Thanks again one and all

if i remember correctly your flyin rooks right?......if so i have 1 suggestion.....hook up with a good driver....follow him around to learn angles of attack...try to avoid HO's...but trust me...that won't be easy...faster you learn your ACM's, the better your fights will become....nothing like a good fight between same skilled fighters.

Didn't mean to waste your fun by sayin something stupid on channel 1...sorry again.

any question fell free to ask, if you wanna learn a few tricks come knights or just ask me on open channel. I'll give ya a few so you can survive longer.

1st,  Welcome 2wkTrial  hope you have fun

2nd,  SLO,...IF you are facing another oncoming aircraft in the Head On position you are participating in a HO whether you fire or not. (Period).  and then you die.    If you change your aircrafts direction then it is no longer a HO and if you die then too bad.   Remember it takes two planes to HO,  You can not be HO'd without HO'ing.

Hello and Welcome,
We were all new to AH at one time or another, and there are alot of AW people here also.  As for somebody CRYING about HO'ing, it's simple, it takes two to HO.
AH is one of the greatest online flight sims that I have ever seen, read the manual and the help boards to learn the intricasies of the game.
And most importantly, have fun, after the two week trial, it's your $15.00 a month.

 Welcome aboard!

This argument is really getting old.  You CAN'T always avoid a HO (Period).  Especially if you're worried about putting yourself in an even worse position.  It does NOT take two planes to HO ALL the time, quite often (especially the low slow guy in a furball) you just land there.  On the other hand, and just as often you get the old Nik/Spit skill-less types who's only manuever is to turn headon into you.  Actually, I'll retract my statement... if you choose not to engage you can always avoid a HO (sheesh).  The truth of the matter is, the occurence of the HO is a matter of two planes facing eathother... however it only takes one lamer gamer Quakehead wimp to force the issue.

I think Lephturn's got a downloadable profile on his site, but.....

You get more buttons, a sharper response and less nose bounce if you drop the sidewinder software (kill it completly) and use AH's stick profiler.

I found the sidewinder software introduced a tiny bit of delay to input (another application layer, I suppose); which made tuning out nose bounce almost impossible.

.SW4 files

Not sure if this is quite what you want. I have the MSW Prec. Pro joystick, and use the MS Game Controller Software v3.02. Within that, I have created a profile called Aces High - it's an .SW4 file. In that, all my joystick buttons are programmed with specific functions. My autopilot controls for airspeed hold and angle hold are controlled by the two joystick buttons operated by the right thumb. Shift+button D brings up the command .speed and lets you type in the speed you'll use as your autopilot controlled speed. My favourite is shift+button C. That causes the message Death to all N1Ks to be typed on ch100 :)

But you can add this profile and then modify it any way you want. It's good enough to get you started.
