Possible fix for guns on Bombers

If you want the 'long range, slight advantage gunnery modeled in current FM'...then you have to spend perk points on it.

If you want the same gun range that all aircraft with .50s have, then its no cost.

As suggested in another tread i think an "outo-kill-ripsnort" command would help

Err, Rip, fly the Lancaster a few times, have the tail guns fail to fire and feel those "perk points" slide away....

B-17 has incredible guns tho...I was intercepting one at 30k, was at his 3 o'clock and 1.9k away.  He fired at me, shot of my RIGHT wing (wasnt facing him) with one ping.  With that kind of firepower on B-17s, Im resorting to Voodoo (beanie babies and pins!) to hurt those B-17 gunners!!

Actually Rip, that's an excellent idea!  I believe it should cost about as much perk points as the average mission earns.

Or an alternate fix - Hosing out lead in long continuous streams warps the barrels from the extreme heat that would be created.  Result, the flight paths of the bullets diverge more and more from the point of aim as the barrels heat then warp.

Mig Eater, you would have to add that rule to every plane then, not just the Bombers.  The .50 cal in the B-17 is no different for cooling than a .50 cal in a P-51.

Hans.

No I dont think so. Unless you mean put B17 guns on the other planes as a perk. The lanc and the Ju88 are pretty vulnerable now.
Good perks would be the
belly gun for the lanc.
Grand Slam
Glide bombs
Yb40 load out
Chaff

But should the B17G be a perk plane? Maybe.
Should there be some limiter as to firing flex guns while under heavy Gs..
Maybe.
But there should be some feature like padlock that allows you to go to the engagable gun with one key stroke. The plane had lots of eyes not 2.

Pongo, I think your right about the Lanc and JU88, I would like to see this implemented into the B17G only, since they have guns in the belly as well.

Just looking for an alternative that could please both the "Guns are too strong" crowd vs the "Bombers are too vulnerable" crowd.
