I'm at work, have no books obviously and I can't find crap on any websites.

Does anyone have Bombsight model names for German bombers..Do17, He111, Ju88?  Early war period (till 42 or so) if you know.  Thx

Hi Wingnut,

I think they all used the Lotfe 7 ("Lotfernrohr" translates to 'plummet telescope', I think).

At least in its operating principle, the Lotfe 7 seems to have been a development of the pre-war Norden sight, blueprints of which had been brought to Germany by a German-descendent employee of the Carl L. Norden company. (He was later convicted for espionage in the USA.)

There were different versions of the Lotfe 7. I'm aware of the Lotfe 7C, D, H and K. The H had higher altitutude limits than the C (15000 m opposed to 10000 m), and I'd guess the K had higher top speed limits as it was used in the Arado Ar 234 jet bomber.

Regards,

I got home started looking thru books but most of mine just have small 2 line text on the bombsight.  Know of any internet sources with detailed looks at the sights?
