I've managed to do this only once, back in AH 1.02 or something. Never since, and man, have I had the opportunities to try it.

Based on my experiences, the G-2 can not be flown and landed with half a wing missing.

The Bf109G in AH is NOT controllable with 1/2 wing damage!

The F4U handles 1/2 wing damage the best. FW190 and N1K2J are next but not very close.

I have no idea what criteria are used to determine 1/2 wing control but we can be sure they do not consist of:

Wing Loading (Fw 190 has much higher WL than Bf109G)
Roll Rate (The NIK2J does not roll very fast. Neither does the TBM Avenger)
Torque (F4U has large torque effect.)

Frankly I think it's random.

Virage, it has to do with engine torque. If you notice, some planes can fly with one wingtip missing but not the other. If the torque applied by the rotating propeller is stong enough to counter the lack of lift from that wingtip, the plane can maintain straight and level flight, even land... but it's not going to be able to fight at ALL.
