Before we get another P-38, I'd like them to fix some of the stuff on the L model first.

We have plenty of P38's. We need at least 2 more 109 variants before we get another P38.

Fester "Not to say you are good" but I have been looking at this game for a few months now and I can say you! are a porch monkey. You stay hight an pick away at the left over from last night party. Yea yea yea I know what you going to say why dont you duel me " I have a life " I think the P38L model does not even compare to the real one. Take that plane to 25k and make a shallow dive and look at speed I will compress so bad. Im not a pilot but I have spoken to many real pilots " I know what you going to say Im a real one 2. " But what you know about the P38L to say it is accurate 0% :).

My vote for an early 38 would be the G-10-LO. It was the most produced of the pre-J models. Gs started rolling off the production lines in Nov. 1941 and were in service at the squadron level in early '42, so they wouldn't be out of place in any early war USAAC scenario except Pearl Harbor. The G-10 could mount 12 4.5" bazooka-tube type rockets and had winterization equipment. That's one of the reasons why I'd like to see it in 11th AF markings. 54th FS, 343rd FG based in the Aleutians would be a good choice as it was one of the first all P-38 squadrons. It would also be a fitting tribute to the brave men in that all but forgotten theater who had to fly and fight in one of the harshest environments on earth.

I always found the P38 to be a great plane in AH. I don't know why some said it was an expert plane only.

Just like Bf109G6 for me Frenchy, but frankly we are experts at this game compared to most of the guys so it may well hold true. Who knows.....

I can't imagine taking the P-38 above 20K, unless to intercept bombers. Even then, it's far from the best choice, although circumstances may dictate taking one up another 5k. However, I have not found that compressibility is a major problem. I've gone to 27k to kill a Lanc, escaping the Spitfire (2) and Mustang (1) escorts by out-diving them. Sure, it shakes like a wet dog, so what? Neither the Spit or P-51 could follow for fear of losing their wings on the pullout. No problem for the P-38, just used trim to ease out.

I will argue that the dive recovery flaps do not function as they are supposed to, nor should the flaps blow up. This is confirmed by P-38 combat pilots Art Heiden, Stan Richardson and Jack Ilfrey, who scored 15 kills, 2 probables and 3 damaged between them in the ETO and North Africa. Stan was an "engine-out" instructor at a P-38 RTU. He claims to have more time flying on one engine than with two!

Beyond those two issues (relatively minor), the P-38 model is extremely usable. Personally, I like the fact that you can perform some amazing maneuvers in the vertical, going up or down. A bit more elevator authority would be nice.:D

Sorry.  Can't help you.  It would be a waste of time.  No more additions to AH.
