P-38/Bf110 Star Gunsight
« on: May 14, 2002, 06:26:40 PM »
Feedback appreciated.

This gunsight is tailored for use at d600 range or lower. Anything inside the star-shaped sight will guarantee to be hit if you firing at it d600 or lower. The shape takes into account dispersion (as best as I could). So if you got the target inside the star you got a high chance of hitting in that area.

file submitted post below, the one you see here is for explanation only.

Edit: Hmm.. for some reason I cant attach the new jpg. Putting it at the bottom of thread

Great job! What convergence setting should the guns be set at, 650? Can you make a red one? Your sight now has a home in my sights file for evaluation :)
THANKS!  :)

just open the sight in PAINT and FILL the black lines with the color you want.

Edit: Hmm.. I tried doing that.. but it doesnt change to red color. Weird. Sorry, I really dont have  a clue. I tried changing the gunsight color to grey, to red , to pink, to cyan.. when I put it on AH offline they either looked black or white or dissapeared (pink).

I just uploaded an updated sight in my first post, I noticed the tick markers for the 20mm's  and rockets were too high up.

Explanation:

1 - 45/55 degree dive angle bombsight when at d2.0 to d1.0 distance. Also doubles as ROCKET sight when firing them at 45 degrees or LESS, d800 to d1.5 range.

NOTE: The above only works if 38 has been in a dive for 1 or 2 secs and has "stabilized" its dive vector. Dont expect to flip nose over top, aim this and have them hit)

2 - Deflection aim point for 50 cal MG at d450-d600 range

3 - Aim point for rockets and bombs when on high angle (60 degrees to 80 degrees) dive on target OR when target is close (d800 or less).  Doubles as aim point for 20mm range d500-d700.

4 - 20mm aim point for range d300 to d500

NEW EXPERIMENTAL: 5 - Negative G Rocket / High Alt Bomb aimpoint. For use for dive bombing at high altitudes (8k~12k) at angles 45 degrees to about 75 degrees. Also for firing rockets when pulling negative g's when at about d1.5/4k alt out. It works so-so when I use it, i've found that the higher the angle, the better it works.

Hey Tac,

If ya want to change the color, the color you want to use needs to be in the images color index. The best way to do this is with an image editor with a bit more capability than MSPaint. Something more along the lines of Photoshop or The Gimp for the Linux crowd

Works pretty damn good on my Yak and 109. Wonder if it will work on the 202 and 205's nose guns? Well whatever. it is one of the best for nose mounted gun AC.
