infinite spawn of veh. needs to change
« on: May 15, 2002, 09:41:56 AM »
I hate to say it guys, but you need to change the vspawn for the next time this map shows up.  Hats off to corwin for dying over and over and over and over and still spawning to keep the troops out.  There is no way I would have had the patience for that.  We had 12 guys trying to take a vh on GB and 1 guy in a truck was all it took to keep us from it.

I have heard the arguements about it 'just making it more of a challenge' but in all reality all it means is that the milkrunners get captures and the concerted organized effort gets nothing.  Also it forces people who dont want to sit in a m16 and defend a base to do so, because the option is there.  I like seeing the vh go down on my own bases sometimes, cause at least i have an excuse for not sitting in a truck when I want to fly.

In one sortie flying a tbm I killed corwin 4 times one right after the other.  By the time I had reversed he had spawned again.  Where in the hell did the germans on english soil get all that equipment?  Corwin has 22 kills in the m16 and has died 22 times in the m16.  16 of those were from tbms.  I am going to assume those deaths were mostly last night.  Now that is perseverance.

All this meant was pure frustration for the allies, and not fun.  In the last bob setup, I did not notice this problem.  This is an old map 'retrofitted' right?

(really no offense to corwin he did a knock up job last night just using it as an example)

Teleporters for supplies and equipment is a concession to gameplay just as is you getting a new life after you die is.

WWIIOnline has be struggling with this since day and still (from the occasional peeks I take into their message boards) don't have it worked out.

I don't have any idea how HTC would be able to change the strat to make it both more realistic and still appeal to the majority of their customers.  I suspect the first online WWII sim that offers a realistic supply chain, command chain and a persisten strategic layer while still allowing its paying customer base to operate the equipment they want at the time they want will dominate the market.

yeah, I have been watching that too.

My real whine here is about the lack of a vehicle hanger in the current bob map.  Normally you can stop the little buggers from spawning, but not here.

man I am just about as unclear today as a person can get...

I meant vehicle base/radar station in the first post

In the last post I should have explained, there are no vehicle hangars in this bob setup or at least not at radar stations.  This allows perpetual spawn of vehicles.  You cant blow up the vehicle hangar cause it aint there!

Now that should be clearer I hope  sorry

In the words of the great Rosanna Rosanna Danna...

"Nevermind"

(I had kind of been wondering were some the gv had been coming from though.)

Where's the VH!?!
« Reply #10 on: May 15, 2002, 12:20:18 PM »
At the radar v-fields, there is no separate town.  There are a couple of town buildings you must destroy to capture it, and those buildings are located adjacent to the radar towers.  So where's the VH, you ask?  Look closely at the large town building with the duce-and-a-half truck parked next to it.  Next to this building is a little shed or barn, light tan in color, with a dark gray roof, and open at both ends so that you can drive through it.  It looks sort of like a covered bridge building.  THAT is the VH.  Try this off line.  Go to one of the radar v-fields and turn to look at this little shed/barn.  Bring up "set-up" on the clipboarn and select "Destroy Object."  Selecting the field number you're currently sitting at, scroll down through the object list until you come to the vehicle hanger.  Then click on "detonate" button and watch the little barn blow up.  You can then verify that vehicles are now disabled at that field.

The main problem with this little building is that it's soooo small it's hard to hit with the two or three thousand pounds of ordance necessary to kill it.  But it can be killed.

P.S. This is not a retred of a previous terrain, but a brand new one built by Sundog.  A great job overall, but I think he should probably go back and put a traditional VH object back onto those radar fields.

OH!!!!!! no dont touch it!  (besides fixing the shore batteries).

I was parked at that base with an m8 blowing stuff up.  I thought that little shed was like the trucks, just pretty nothing else.  Way cool.  I put about 25 shells into it and decided I was just wasting ammo.  I remember watching someone put a lot of heavy bombs on it, but nothing happened so I definitely thought it was just flare.  Sweet.  i will tell the guys.

Thanks for clarification sabre.  I too left that building alone after a 10 or so rounds thinking it was a decoration...

From Cool Hand Luke. (a Movie about prison life)

Road Prison 36 Captain (Strother Martin):

"What we've got here is ... failure to communicate.  Some men you just can't reach, so you get what we had here last week which is the way he wants it.  Well, he gets it. And I don't like it any more than you men.
