With the coming release of WWIIOL I think that we can all asume that HT is watching it with interest. (As are all of us).

Putting this very ambitious project to one side I think we have to ask the question what is this game we are playing?
is it a flighhtsim?
Is it a Ground war sim?
Is it a ship sim?

I know we have heard it all before but just interested in what AI as well as strategy implementations you lot would like to see?

I for one lust for:-

(Transport)
    Bridges
    Truck Convoys
    Ship Convoys
    Trains

(Planes)
    Resupply by Air
    Rescue planes

There was a post not so long ago on field supply, why just field supply, surely it would be more to the war effort if it was country supply.

Getting back to the opening paragraph, I for one do not want to see WWIIOL take away all the hard work that not only HT and his team have worked for but also, all the effort and money that we have put into it.

Keeps us number one Guys & Girls, keep the ideas flowing

Well, i hate to say it, but I think with all the things WWIIOL tries to model, it will be a jack of all trades.

I am a fighter pilot. I go for the best FM.

If the rats are less reponsive than HTC (and all companies I've met have been) and not as dedicated to the fm, I'll stick with AH.

Not saying that i do not want to see these things, but one of the good parts about Ah is that it is primarily a fighter sim.

If WWIIOL is good, I'll play both

Hmmmm, I have been flying Ah since it opened beta.  I have been watching the BBS about WBIII, WWIIonline, and AWIV.  While AH continues to improve the product, we only have screenshots and movies to watch of these other sims.  The only conclusion I can come to is hype is being overdone on WBIII and WWIIonline.  I think we will be in for a big disappointment when they do show their stuff.  Expectations are too high for these sims to live up to.

Strategy: a plan, method, or series of actions designed to achieve a specific goal or effect.

Strategy isn't anything a developer can add directly to a sim or a game - except via a sort of canned "AI." That usually comes in box games to make up for not having other humans to play with.

The weak link in strategy is always the players. We're not in the military. Most do not like being told all the time what to do. Regardless, the "statego-ist" have to play with the tools they are given, be it here, WB's, EverQueen or In WWII Online. And many enjoy and excel at it.

I don't think *anyone* (AH or WB's) has anything to fear from WWIIOnline because WWIIO is not really anything new except for adding  the "FPS" aspect to an arena environment. All the other aspects can be played anywhere else.  How can I be so blasphemous?      Easy. It's true! AW has aircraft, vehicles and a primitive strat for years now. YEARS. I say.  AW never had a Navy or the foot solder.   WB's is the the same. But they never had vehicles. AH has it al except for the foot soldier. WWII Online won't have the Navy for a while but it will have the foot soldier aspect. As for the fidelity or complexity? Give it 6 mos before it is <cough> improved to meet the demands of the "3l1t3".!

In a nutshell the tools used to promote players use of strategy are in all of them, but in all of them there are, or will be, varying opinions on what is the way to play.

It'll be no less different in WW2O. Actually, it will be much worse and by a magnitutude of ten at least.  In WWII Online I see a huge contingent who all "know" the right way to play. They've been waiting for something like WW2O for years! Well <snicker>  Just wait till all these Generals have to play with each other <GGG>. Then you'll see fireworks like you've never seen here, WB's or AW.

But to get back to your post    I wouldn't mind seeing all those things you mentioned implemented. It adds variety and more choice. And that's good. As long as we have choices

How long will the FPS guys hang around if they are subjected to getting strafed by aircraft and cannot hit the target strafing them?

I'm not beating on WWIIOnline.  I plan to buy it and if its $9.95 per month, then I can afford both AH and WWIIOnline.

My question comes because it can be very frustrating get nailed by strafing and not be able to fight back effectively.

The only wish I have for WWII online is that it's a roaring success and draws the strat types and their idiotic "patriotic wars" off to a far corner of the universe.

I fly fighters, in a FLIGHT SIM.

Nothing else interests me. If it did, I'd be playing steel beasts or some FPS "quake with uniforms" clone.

Besides, can you imagine the Wheremacht whining? "My storm trooper only runs at 7 MPH for 15 minutes, I have here several reference works that CLEARLY state a 3rd riech trooper could run at 14 MPH for an hour"

"Where's my mauser! The mauser was in field use by 1943"

"The Tommies are uber!! Perk the SAS"

And so it goes.....

One way would be using the radio requesting air support...

Seeker just an exerpt from the AH online overview-Strat and the Map Room

=========================================
There are three basic categories of strat targets in Aces High:  cities, factories, and field structures.

The city targets affect the downtime of the factories, and the factory targets affect the downtime of the field structures.  Field structures affect the availability of fuel, troops, radar, ordnance, planes and vehicles.

=============================================

HMMMMMMM would this be classed as strategy?

Please get your facts right before firing blanks.

I am not saying that everyone should be interested in strategy or furballing, but the fact remains that you pay $$$$ per month in a predominent flight sim with heavy strategy overtones.

Wake up and smell the coffee

One way would be using the radio requesting air support...

"Requesting?" or commanding someone to provide airsuport or demanding someone provide air support?

In all the games I've played I very, very rarely see anyone 'request' anything. Oh. Wait! WW2O wil be different.  Right

HMMMMMMM would this be classed as strategy?

No. Those are strategic targets. You, the player,  are supposed to provide the stategy. The strategy over tone here is "HEY GRAB A GOOMN FOR A48 NOW!!" "JERK CAN'tEVN LAND A GoOn RIGHT!I" NEED HELP AT A18!!! NOWWWWWWW!!!" "What THE HEL ARE YOU ATTACKING A25 FOR??!!" " SCREW YOU FURBALLES AT A1. We HAVE A WAR TO WIN!"

And that don't smell like coffee to me Mox. Coffee never smelled so bad as that

vox.... i'm with seeker on this one plus... those (cough) "strat" elements you quote are by anyones standards, gimicks not "strategy" as it would apply to WWII.  People who just want action have no use for em and people who wish to be immersed in history think they are silly.   I'm not sure who really likes em... ex board game types I guess.
