USAF Museum - Anybody Wanna Go on March 11?

Dinger and I are planning a visit to the USAF Museum in Dayton OH.  We are tenatively planning to tour the museum on Sunday 3/11 and visit the research office on Monday 3/12.  If anybody is interested in meeting up with us on either day, let me know.

Anyone interested in visiting the Champlin (sp) aircraft museum in Mesa AZ (Phoenix) I'll be happy to meet you there. I live in Tucson and it's only about 90 minutes drive or 30 minutes flight time depending on weather.

Boeing bought the museums displays so it won't be here much more than a year before being moved to Washington State.

I was just at WBAFB museum last fall (I live 3 hours from it).   Some of their more interesting exhibits (the WW2 planes) include:

P-40; P-39; P-38 (some variant); P-47 Razorback; P-51A and P-51D; B-17; B-24; B-25; B-26; A-20; A-26; P-61; Bf-109G-10; FW-190D-9; ME-262; Me-163; Spitfire 5; PBY; C-47; and a few others I can't recall

Their Korean-era exhibits are awesome too.  Plus, they have a large number of modern jet aircraft (including an F-22).  It's definately worth the trip.

If possible, be there a good amount of time before closing and get a pass to go into the hangar with the executive jets--not many people bother to do so.

The P-51A is an A-36, the Mustang with the 4 .50 cals in the nose, its an attack aircraft.

The Spitfire faces a wall, and the P-40 is with the Pre-WWII stuff!

They have one of the few existing P-36 Hawks in existance though.

From World War One they have some of the canvas from Baron Manfred Von Richthofen's "Vermillion" colored Dr VII.  In which he met his demise.

Also Teddy Roosevelt Junior was buried near his brother who was shot down and killed in the first war.  (Both of Teddy Sr.s sons died in France.)

Bongs .45 and a letter chastising him for his 35 kill.

Maguires clarinet.

All the guns!  A Schwalbe and a Komit!  (Next to the B-17) and an 88!

Good day, take your own Camera and a TriPod.

Take money for the Book Store! (Even if you don't buy books, get me the AVG/Flying Tiger P-40 Mouse pad please!)

Anyone willing to give me a round trip, all expenses paid trip to Europe complete with tour of the countries of my choice, drop me a line.   BTW, I'd prefer a Ferrari Modena or F50 as my rental ride. Thanks...Oh and first class please...with the little TVs. That is all.

The museum annex with the presidential planes is also worthy of a visit for some of the other aircraft they have there including a P59, P47D-30, Ju88, P75, and P63.  BTW, the P38 they have is an L model.

They are also currently refurbishing one of the YF-23A prototypes (At the annex) to be displayed next to the YF-22A prototype they have there. I believe it is the YF-23A they used for their 'live fire' tests to see how advanced composites stand up against AA fire.(They could have just made it a perk plane in AH for that!    ).

Going back already Funked!   Have fun!
