Request for change in fuel Loadouts in the F4U-1
« on: May 20, 2002, 06:25:22 PM »
Pyro,

This is not a request for a change in the FM. It is a request for the way the fuel is distributed in the hanger loadout for the F4U-1.

Currently if you select any of the fuel loadout options in the F4U-1 (25%, 50%, 75%, 100%) the wing tanks as well as the maintank will contain fuel. This makes fuel managment more difficult as well as making it difficult to get a resonable fuel quanity when starting a mission.

Currently.

1. 25% of fuel in the F4U-1 is equal to roughly 40% of the fuel in the F4U-1D. This quanity is too much for base defense which is what 25% fuel is normally used for.

2. 50% fuel is approx. 80% of the F4U-1D but is still the best option for the F4U-1. However it is to much for most short range options. It is really the only viable fuel selection available for most missions.

3. 75% fuel is over 100% percent of the F4U-1D and is more than most missions require. Also the fuel tanks are burned at intervals with the main tank making fuel managment difficult. It would be better to burn the wing tanks first and then the main. Manual switching is an option but then automatic switching will no longer work. A problem in a busy MA although it does lend to realism.

4. 100% fuel is about 135% fuel in the F4U-1D. Way to much for the MA map and any newbie thinking that this is a viable fuel load would never fly the -1 again. It simply cannot fly at this fuel load. And again the wing tanks do not burn first. This affects stabilty and fuel control adversely.

What would I like to see differant?

The same fuel options as the F4U-1D in the F4U-1 with the option to use the wing tanks in what would normally be the drop tank column instead of being in the 25, 50, 75 or 100% options.

Also any fuel load that puts fuel in the wing tanks has the wing tanks burn first. Much like the aux tank in the P-51D. It is also my understanding that this was also standard practice in WW2.

Is this a viable change or am I way off base?

why not making it so we can set the individual loads of each of the fuel tanks separately?

In all planes, of course.

This is what I requested exactly  to be done for the Ta152(somewhat, see Threa: Request fuel loadout changes for Ta152 in the Gameplay and Feedback Forum). From the onset at 25%,  all of the tanks have 25% of fuel which do make  fuel management an issue in the Ta152, not only that but the wing tanks should filled for last ,since they were auxiliary tanks , not self sealing like the forward and AFT tanks, they were filled for long rangge missions(considering the state of fuel in '45 not many, if ever, the H-1s got their wing tanks fully fueled.)

Considering also the Ta152, in AH, has weak wings it adds to the weight that the wings have to hold during flight.
