Aces High Con or not
« on: May 21, 2002, 11:14:33 AM »
I was really excited when I read about this years Con!! Never had been to one, and was psyched about hanging with a bunch of flightsm nerds talking about computers and stuff..Prefer that over disney anyday. I had prepped uppermanagement "WifeY" a month or two ago, had planned to ship out laptop and flatscreen, was ready to have a great time!!!! Coming from a Software company background "small Mom and Pop shop" Thought it would be cool to meet Hitech and the gang...
Then I started reading the Forums!! Big mistake on my part..
I am not going to spend 3 days with the type of rude, malcontent, sexually frustrated trollers that I see flaming every single person who posts on this Forum!!
Not even going to justify by pointing fingers, the losers know who they are and I am surprised There isn't a Forum mediator to control the BS  bash posts I read in here.
This forum is a place for aviation enthusiasts and Flight Sim enthusiasts to talk about there hobby and experience in AH. Not a place for imature people to bash everyone they think is a newbie or a post they dont agree about..  I also don't understand why The Forum sponsor puts up with these people
There is no justification for threatening someone for a post or calling them names period. I am part of this community and I intend to stay flying for as many years as I am able, I am not a newbie nor care if labeled as such. I speak for the silent majority of Aces high enthusiasts that are tired of the prettythanghole post responses to every single post in this forum!! We don't want your bad attitudes here!!! move on!!!! find another hobby!!! Go get help!!!! see a counselor for your bad attitude!!
If you don't have anything nice to say don't respond to a post you disagree with...Just move on!!!
The general rule for Newsgroup behavior is "Treat people how you want to be treated, respond to posts the way you would like your posts to be responded to!!!
 Ok enough of that rant....
If you don't post negative replies to every post than please disregard this post!! was not intended for you!!

Movin on!!

Good point.   Even so. Where have you and your positive contributions been all this time?

I've been to the Con and I haven't seen anything like that sort of behavior.  Everybody I have met in person from this community has been very friendly and polite.  If people have any grudges from the forum I have never seen them bring that baggage to a con or other meeting.

Just keep dodging K, keep dodging.   Whew, it's only a BB, not a church revival.

LOL! At the 2 Con's I've been at (1 AW and 1 AH) its usually the guys that squeak at each other the most on the BBS that are best buds drinking one another under the table.

Troll ? Or Botabing?  Gotta ask Pyro to check the IP address :)

"Whew, it's only a BB, not a church revival."

Absolutely.  However IMO the BB is more akin to the real social atmosphere found at a pub or bar. A place where people are free to exchange points of view and opinions, regardless of whether they are opposing or similar.  Some people can deal with that social setting and others can't (see author of this topic).  Granted some of these discussions become heated and a few may pass over the line but IMO those people who do that aren't very good in eal life social situations to begin with I'd bet.

The discussions on these boards about guns, planes or air-combat here are all very similar to real life people talking, debating and/or arguing about what they think are the best automobile, boat engines or thier favorite sports teams and players. The discussions can get "loud" at times but few really get obnoxious and threatening. It's the same thing that happens here. And every now and then the owners have to ring the bar bell and ask folks to quiet down and remember to behave but overall it's normal healthy social interaction between passionate views and opinions.

And every now and then the boards here get a visit by some sensitive introvert who asks that folks in this joint stop being so boisterous, mean and bad

You need to understand that people behave that way on the BBS because they can. Likewise, they will not behave in such a manner in person, because they can't. Not with only thin air separating them from object lessons in social skills, or at least being ejected from the event. Such overt rudeness will not be seen. Do not let it deter you from going to the con if you can possibly make it. Don't let anyone spoil your fun. Go, enjoy yourself, I wish I could (my wife's health prevents me from travelling, as she needs considerable care - maybe next year).

That is NOT a good excuse to avoid the con , Check pics and posts from last con , then make your decision :)

Actually, I know that it is not Botabing.  If you feel like deluding yourselves into believing that it is him, go right ahead, you will only make yourself look as foolish as you want to portray Bot.

I learned this long ago at various BBS, AOL and other from-the-net-to-real-life gatherings....people are quite different when you take that annonymous little keyboard away.

(Although its always amusing that a guy with a nick like "DarkSword" is always an 80 pound little stick, with Coke-bottle-thick glasses, lives in his Mom's basemnet and works at the local Texaco....)

:D

If I can afford it, I'll be there!

Then who is it mathman?  Is this one of those privy inside jokes on the rest of the community that are really supposed to bring people together?

Is a post where people are criticizing people for being amazinhunks because they called people names apropriate or funny?

Maybe this is one of those "ironic" posts that someone else just tried to explain was so funny.

Please mathman.. share with the rest of us your insite into what you "know".

OK.. so... if its not botabing... and its someone that just casually reads the boards...

To whomever posted this:

Read through your post.  Note who you criticized and how you went about it.  Really... you should fit right in.
