upgrade help
« on: May 21, 2002, 01:18:03 PM »
Ok guys,

I currently have a p3 500mhz with a gforce2mx  64mg card and 256 ram.  I am going to buy parts in the next couple of days for a new system.  I am going to build an amd system. Now here is the question.

Should I go economical on the mobo and processor, say a 1.2 or 1.4 gig thunderbird and a kt266 board and get a geforce4? or should I get a xp processor, a 333 board and keep my geforce2?.

I cant talk the wife into the full blown mod, so I must make the dredded economical decision in my upgrade.  Any and all help is appreciated.

Thanks

even the XP chips are cheap relatively.

I'd say go an XP chip, the 266 board and try a gf4 mx 440
For AH the cpu is the biggest factor for frame rate and the fancy GF4 cards support features that AH does not..
You can always upgrade the card later if you wish.

Here in canada eh, the gf4 mx 440 is around 160$ the gf4 ti4400 around $500...

Go for the better Video Card! I recommend at least a Geforce3 TI 200  W/ 128Mb of DDR Ram.

Once you have an Athlon CPU above 1Gig you have more than you need to run Aces High, or most anything else on the market. The juicier video card will provide the most improvement for your money after that.
